What we did today… and our new class pet!

Hello Families!

Today was an exciting day!

We learned more interesting facts about the Bald Eagle..another symbol of America that we are learning about. After reading an informational book about Bald Eagles, we practiced asking questions to our friends using questions words. We have also been practicing asking questions about words we don’t know in our books.

We created a circle map to help us with our informational writing about the Bald Eagle. The children did such an amazing job recalling facts and writing about the Bald Eagle! I am impressed with not only their writing, but also the adorable Bald Eagles they drew! 🙂

We have been practicing making plural nouns. We have been learning if the noun ends with an, x, s, sh, or ch we should add -es to the end to make the noun mean more than one…plural. If the noun does not, we add -s. (ex. brush/brushes, dog/dogs)

In math, we practiced solving addition story problems as we used our white board paddles to write the math sentence with the sum. We also discussed how we know when the story problem was asking us to the add.

Starting on Monday of next week, I will be using a few minutes of our day to see which students know how to tie their shoes. Please practice this skill with your child. We will have a Shoe Tying Wall of Fame for the kindergartners who demonstrate that they can tie their shoes.

Tomorrow is Count Day! It is important that all of the students are on time and at school! 🙂

Thursday is Math Night at Miller! Please plan on attending this awesome night of math fun! The event will take place from 4:45-5:45. There will be math games available for purchase as well!

So…if you have not heard the news….we got a class pet! We have a goldfish!!! The children voted on a name and the name that won is Goldie! So..we welcome Goldie to our classroom family! I decided to get a goldfish for a few reasons. One is that this week we began classroom job assignments. Feeding the goldfish is one of the classroom jobs. This week, the job belongs to Bilal. Next week will be a different student. We have many different classroom jobs. This is just one of them 🙂

We are also beginning to learn more about living and non-living things as well as the needs of living things. Goldie will help us with these concepts!

Report cards will be coming home tomorrow! Please be sure you read over the report cards and sign and return the envelope with your name. Return the envelope back to school by Thursday. Thank you!

Ok…one more thing…we are in need of tissues, baby wipes, and hand soap. Thank you for all you do! Enjoy the pictures!
