Check out what we’ve been doing!

Hello Families!

We will be collecting coins and dollars for the Burn Drive to support our local firefighters for the next 2 weeks! Please help us support this worthy cause! Our class goal is to collect $50.00!

We are learning about things we need to live and be healthy! We cut out pictures of things we need and sorted them into groups!

We sorted things we need by 1. Water, 2. Healthy Food, 3. A place to live, 4. Clothes, 5. Love 🙂

Here is our finished project!

We were introduced to the equal sign and its meaning!

We had to create equal amounts to match Mrs. Mehrhof and read the equation left to right!

Also, I am asking for any new/used magazines and coloring books that you might want to donate. You can send these in anytime.

Help us Support the Local Firefighters!

Tomorrow we are beginning to collect coins and dollars to raise money for the local Burn Drive for the Dearborn Firefighters! Please help us raise money for these heroic men and women! See below for more information!

Firefighters save lives nearly every day, and the Burn Drive helps Dearborn firefighters improve the lives of even more.

The Dearborn firefighters always support Oakman, so let’s support them. Please donate any amount. Every year Oakman raises hundreds of dollars to donate to those less fortunate than we are.

We had a great start to 2019…and Field Trip info came home today!

Hello Families!

Today was so nice! We enjoyed being with each other and sharing stories about what we did over the winter break. I am so happy to see all of the wonderful writing practice that was done over the break too! Thank you!

I sent home the permission slip and information for the upcoming field trip to the Fox Theater to see Sesame Street Live. The permission slip and money is due on Friday, Jan. 11. If you have any questions, please see me.

I can take 2 adults on the bus as chaperones, but in order to be eligible for this you must have a completed background check (ichat) on file with the Oakman Office. If you have not filled this form out, please bring in a form of identification and do so as soon as possible. Parents who would like to drive separate from the bus are welcomed to do so but will have to pay for parking at the Fox Theater.

Please remember to send a water bottle (with your child’s name on it) as well as a healthy snack to school each day. Thanks!

We did a great job jumping right back into our Daily 5 routines. We were all so excited to write!

Word Work is always a fun way to practice letters and sounds as well as other concepts such as rhyming and syllables.

We reviewed former math concepts during math workshop.

We even reviewed sorting by size and color.

Welcome back and Happy 2019!!!

Hello Families!

I am looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! We will have a great first week of school of 2019!

I hope everyone had a wonderful 17 days off of school! And….I pray all of you enjoy a new year full of love, happiness, and blessings! Again…I can’t wait to see 17 of my little blessings in the morning!

I wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Hello Families!

I would like to say Merry Christmas to all of you and I would also like to say thank you for all of the beautiful and thoughtful gifts I received! Teaching your child is one of the best gifts I could ever ask for. 🙂 Please tell you children I said hello!

Check out the pictures from the last few days of school of 2018!

We had a Christmas party! We decorated edible Christmas trees!

Thank you for your help at the party, Mrs. Boussi!

We played a number match game as well as an alphabet game at our party!

Thank you, Ms. Mosed’s class helpers for your help too!

We designed our own candy canes using watercolors! (Thank you, Ms. Stewart)

Oakman students and their families, along with staff raised over $1,700.00 for children in Yemen! Way to go!!!

We love having fun at school!

We had a book buddy Christmas gathering too! Ms. Earle had awesome center rotations in her classroom! Then we had ice cream and watched Frosty the Snowman in our classroom!

We are engineers!

We had a science assembly from the Hands On Museum!

I hope you all enjoy the Christmas Break!!!

Please encourage your child to write each day of break! I included writing paper and some “Homework” practice!

Here’s is what exciting things happened today in Y5!

Hello Families!

Today we began our day with a special and adorable surprise inside of our Santa hats! Take a look at the pictures to see more about our day!

We found polar bears in our Santa hats!

We learned a new word work choice to help us practice sight words! We match the pancakes and bacon words with the words on our breakfast plates using a special spatual.

We are learning how to be readers! We are learning to touch each word as we say in the book as well as use pictures and beginning sounds as clues to figure out unknown words!

We each named our special teddy polar bears! Then we showed our bears how we do Daily 5!

This was such a fun surprise!

We used our bears for non-standard measurement and comparison of length. We found items longer and shorter than our bear and reported our findings to the class!

Tomorrow….for day 3 of spirit week…PLEASE dress your child as a crazy/silly scientist!!! Here are some ideas… (they can wear a long sleeve white dress shirts of dads…. perhaps. 🙂 ) And….don’t forget the crazy hair!!! Any donations for Yemen are still appreciated! Thanks for your help!

Santa and Mrs. Claus Visited! Tomorrow Wear an Oakman Shirt or Jersey!

Hello Families!

Tomorrow is day 2 of Spirit Week! Show school spirit by having your child wear a jersey or an Oakman shirt! Please continue to bring in a dollar or any amount to help children in Yemen!

Today we had a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus!

Santa and Mrs. Claus visited our classroom!

We decorated cookies with Mrs. Claus!

Santa read us a story about Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer and talked to us about filling other peoples heart buckets with kind words and actions! He told us about the hurt and bucket dipping that was happening to Rudolf and how we should treat all people with kindness!

Santa asked us what we want to be when we get bigger!

Santa made us laugh!

Santa brought his jingle bells and played them while we sang!

Santa and Mrs. Claus were so nice and showed us lots of love!

Mr. Abu-Rus came in to say hello to Santa and Mrs. Claus…and he wore his special hat!

I am so blessed and love the gift of being your child”s teacher!

We have been learning about reindeer and writing about them! Check out our informational writing in the hallway outside of our room!

We love Daily 5 and learning about books!

We sorted uppercase and lowercase Qq!

We practiced writing letter Qq!

Ms. Coach surprised us this morning!

We wish you a Merry Christmas!

We have been working with PreK on creating an awesome milk carton structure!

Mrs. F. did such an amazing job on the 3rd and 5th grade Holiday concert!

My family saw Santa too! 🙂

Please remember to dress your child in a jersey or sporty shirt or Oakman shirt tomorrow for day 2 of spirit week! They looked so awesome today in their fancy clothes! I was impressed….as I always am with their school excitement!

Day 3 of spirit week is Crazy Scientist Day, Day 4 is (my favorite) PJ Day!, and Day 5 (Friday) is wear red and green or a Christmas shirt, or a Christmas hat! I made the students Santa hats with their names on them. They will bring these home after school on Friday!

Also, I need 4 more parents to volunteer at our Christmas party on Friday at 10AM. Please see me if you can help!

Dress to impress Monday!

See Live Reindeer Today!

Hello Families! We have been learning about reindeer! Here is an awesome opportunity to give your child a chance to see them in person!

Winterfest Market is a great community events with over 20 vendors at each location—

The West Dearborn location will have vendors located in a heated tent in the parking lot at West Village Commons Plaza, 22223 Michigan Ave.

The East Dearborn location will have vendors inside at City Hall ArtSpace Lofts Connector, 13615 Michigan Ave.

There will be:
*Free bounce house for all the kids!
*Henry Ford College Ice Sculptures
*Live entertainment: East- Telephone9 and West- Aj Lynn
*Pebble the Clown will be offering face painting- West from 10am to 12:30pm and in the East from 1:30pm to 4pm.
*Santa, Mrs.Claus and a couple of his reindeer will be landing. Photos are free and will be posted online for your use and download. (Print-outs are not available.)
West from 11am to 1pm. East from 2pm-4pm.

Spirit Week

(December 17-21)

In order for students to participate we are asking students to pay $1 a day. The proceeds will go towards charity for the children of Yemen.

Monday: Dress to Impress (Favorite dress, suits, tie, nice hair) Students should wear their fanciest clothes to school! I promise….we will not paint. LOL! Let’s show our school spirit!

Tuesday: Sports Day/Oakman Gear (Favorite jersey, Oakman shirt)

Wednesday: Crazy Scientist Day (Crazy hair, wear older brother/dads button up shirt, white coat, safety glasses )

Thursday: Pajama Day

Friday: Wear Holiday Colors (green & red, santa hat)

No School Tomorrow!

Hello Families!

Tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 14th, there will be no school for Young 5s and Kindergarten students. Enjoy the time off of school with your children! 🙂

Also, next week, we will have a party on Friday at 9:45-11:10. I am looking for 5 parents who can volunteer to help at a party station in our classroom during this time. Please email, call, or see me if you are available for this fun event!!

We are in need of more baby wipes too! If you can donate, we would really appreciate it!
