It is going to be a chilly week, please send your child to school with a warm coat that zips, hat, and gloves. They go outside everyday as long as it is not raining.

This week the children will have a name writing “test” on Friday! We have been working om writing our first names! Please help your child practice!

We orally told our personal narratives about our day at the farm in buddy teams.
We practiced counting with one to one correspondence numbers up to 7 in a scatter!

We had a great day today!

Hello Families!

We have been learning about how to draw and dictate a narrative story. The children are even starting to use inventive spelling and letter strings as they emerge as writers!!!

After our fin day at the farm yesterday, what better topic to write about than the time we spent at Real Life Farm!

So, the children colored, cut and glue pictures in order to tell the story of their day at the farm! They can use the pictures to dictate a personal narrative with characters, setting, and story sequence of a beginning, middle, and end. This is so exciting!

We also learned the letters Pp (says /p/ like at the beginning of pumpkin pie) and Gg (says /g/ like at the beginning of goat).

The sight words we have been practicing this week are like, and, and go!

The children are making so much progress in their letter identification and writing their names! In fact, next Friday….7 days from tomorrow we will have our first name writing test! You can help your child with this by practicing writing their first name with them each night! If your child has mastered writing their first name, please move on to the last name.

We worked in teams to complete puzzles!
We used pictures to tell the story of our day at the farm!
We put the pictures in order to tell about our day at the farm!

Hello Families!

Today the Dearborn Fire Marshall visited our classroom to discuss fire safety! Please talk to your child about your family’s plan in case of fire. Please check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure the batteries are good and they are in working order. If you do not have a smoke detector, the Dearborn Fire Department will provide and install them for free. Please see me if you have questions about this.

Fire fighters, along with the rest of our first responders are very brave men and women! We are so blessed to have so many of them in the great city of Dearborn.

Number formation in Young 5s!

Posted on

Hello Families!

We are learning so many things in Young 5s. One of the things we are practicing is number formation for numbers 0-3.

Here are the Rhymes that we use to make the numbers provided to us by Eureka Math. Please encourage your child to write numbers at home. 🙂

0: “Curve from the top; be a hero! Close the loop and make a zero.”

1: “Top to bottom, now you’re done. Look you made the number 1.”

2: “Half a moon, there’s more to do; slide to the right, now that’s a 2.”

3: “Backward C, backward C, and that is how you make a 3.”

We also talked about what a Bully is and how we are Bucket Fillers!!! Every Monday in October, we are wearing Blue to create more awareness for anti-bullying behavior. 🙂

Author of “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” reading this amazing book.

Thank you for all you do!

Friday, is a half day!! Dismissal is at 11:45. 🙂
