Hello Families!
Happy first week of October! I am looking forward to a week full of fun and learning! Here is what we are learning this week!
Thank you to all who have donated money to help the hurricane victims. Your generosity will be appreciated by so many who have lost so much! Thank you!
October 4th, is Walk to School Day! If you are able to walk to school with your child, please do so to reduce some of the pollution cars put into our atmosphere. Any little thing we can do to help our planet can go a long way!
Young 5s and Kindergarten will have NO SCHOOL on Friday this week!
Reading: This week we will continue to practice the Three Ways to Read a Book. Your child can read a book by: 1. Reading the pictures, 2. Reading the words, 3. Retelling a familiar story. We will continue to build independence during Daily 5. We will practice Read to Self and Work on Writing. We are up to 6 minutes of stamina where we are working independently on our Daily 5 choice!!! We have been working on naming the characters. We will build our comprehension skills by practicing retelling a story using the pictures. We will also explore what characteristics make up a narrative story.
We will learn the letters Gg, Cc, Aa and the sight word the. Please practice writing these letters at home. Below is an example of how to write the letters. Please review the letters in their name as well as the letters Mm, Dd, and Tt.
Math: We will work on counting to 30 and recognizing numbers and their quantities 1 to 5. This week we will practice writing the numbers 1-5! We will focus on the number 5. We will also talk about basic 2D shapes. We will practice recognizing quantities up to 5 using a 5 frame!
Science: We will continue learning about the 5 senses as we begin to look at the forces of Push and Pull. These are see, hear, smell, taste, touch.
Social Studies: We will continue a unit called “How to Get Along with Others”. This week we will learn what it means to be work together to solve a problem. Please continue to help your child with this concept of being responsible at home. We will continuously review what it means to be responsible at school and at home. (ex. help wash dishes, help feed the pet, help set the table, help make their bed, help pack their healthy afternoon snack.)
Writing: We will take a closer look at what narrative writing is. We will practice telling a story with a picture using dictation and details.
*Please remember: Your child needs to bring a healthy snack to school EVERYDAY! (ex. fruit, veggies, crackers. NO chips or cookies please!)
Please remember to check and empty out the Oakman folder daily and review the letters in your child’s name as well as practice writing their first name each evening!
Thank you for all you do! Have an amazing week!
