Hello Kindergarten Families! Happy 24th week of Kindergarten! This is our first full week of March is Reading Month!!! I am hoping everyone spends more time reading lots of great books! Please help your child login to Clever to access MyOn. Here they have so many online books to choose from for reading. Many of the books are read aloud to them as they follow along! This is a super awesome resource to get your child reading more books. We are having a contest to see which class has the most minutes spent at home on MyOn! Please help our class be one of the winners!
Friday, March 10th is Jersey Day! Every Friday in March will feature something fun or silly your child can wear to school.
Homework: Be sure to complete the daily homework assignments on the February calendar. If this was misplaced, you can find it on the blog
Spelling: Here are the words for this week. Please be sure to help your child practice EVERYDAY! The test is on FRIDAY! Your child will be tested on three word family words and three sight words. * We will also give your child a “cold word” to spell. This is a word that follows the pattern of the word family. (an ex. is bun)
*This week’s word family is –en. Students will write three words that have a different beginning sound with the rime –en. men pen ten as well as one mystery –en family word. This is a “cold word”. (ex. den) |

- pen
- ten
- he
- yes
- play
Reading: We are practicing many reading strategies. This week we will practice narrative reading strategies using books from the amazing Dr. Seuss. We will identify when we do not know a word. We will practice asking questions to gain understanding of this unknown word. We will practice using illustrations in the book to help better understand the story. In addition, we will practice identifying opposites. (up/down, in/out, off/on) Please practice the following sight words: (These are words your child needs to recognize and read by sight.)
Review: away down find New words: help her girl
Math: We will practice composing numbers less than and equal to 10 in more than one way. (ex. 7=3+4, 2+5=7, 1+6=7)
Science: We will continue a unit about living and non-living things. We will continue to distinguish between what is living and what is non-living. We are currently studying snails and fish!
Social Studies: We will continue to practice using position words. We will also practice identifying places in our environment as well as describing them. (ex. I see tables, books, and the gathering place rug. Where am I?)
Writing: This week we will practice narrative writing. We will practice adding details to our writing as well as our illustrations. We will practice writing a story with characters, a beginning, middle, and an end! Please practice stretching for the sounds and using finger spaces between words with your child each day for homework. These writing skills are very important for moving into first grade.
Thank you for all you do!
