Valentine’s Outreach Project for Y5s (We are teaming up the fire department!)

Hello Families!

Valentine’s Day is a day we set aside to show extra love! Love is such an important and fullfiling emotion, but it also something that can be express and shared! So, for our outreach project we are teaming up with Battalion Chief Worden from the Dearborn Fire Department to spread some love and Valentine wishes to children who are in the hospital!

The Young 5s and their families will make Valentines or cards that will be dropped off to the children who are in the hospital. You can color pictures and write a message that says things like…. “You are cared for!” “Feel better soon!” “I hope this puts a smile on your face.” I am sure my loving and caring students can think of many ways to express love on these special little notes! The children can draw or decorate hearts. You may also purchase boxed Valentines for your child to give as well. Your child can write their first name, but not their last name on their Valentines!

So….you might be thinking…how you get these to me? I will be by on Friday, Feb. 12th. Please have your Valentines in a bag on your porch by 12 noon! Our goal is for each Young 5 student and their family to have 5 to 10 Valentines each to pass out to the sick children. This could possibly make a total of 160 Valentines!!! Please help us meet our goal!!

Then, on Saturday, Feb. 13th I will take these Valentines to Battalion Chief Worden at the station on Greenfield at 12 noon. You are welcome to wear a mask and join me as I deliver these Valentines! I will only be there til 12:15 since this is a drop off.

I am so excited to team up with our local community fire department and help children like yours who are sick in the hospital! I am even more excited to spread love to others!

Thank you for all you do!

Love, Ms. Mehrhof
