Look What We’ve Been Doing…and Upcoming Announcements!

Hello Families!

We had such a fun first week of school for 2020! We have practiced stretching for the sounds in words and writing those letters to phonetically spell. Children are reading emergent level books. We also researched and wrote information about reindeer! In addition, we have been practicing measurement and comparing items with their measurable attributes!

This week I will be working on card marking 2 assessments. Your child will be tested on the following:

Uppercase letters and sounds recognition and writing the letters.

Lowercase letters and sounds recognition and writing the letters.

Counting to 50.

Writing numbers to match the quantity for 0-10.

2D shapes and extending patterns with those shapes.

On FRIDAY….your child will be tested on writing their first and LAST names… ex. Kandi Mehrhof (Please help them practice with putting a space between the first name and the last names as well as using uppercase letter for the first letter of the first name and uppercase letter for the first letter in the last name and lowercase letters for the rest!

This week we will have a visit from one of the Dearborn Librarians. Please come and join us at 9:00 and you will be able to help your child sign up for a library card.

We will also have our 2nd Play Group from 4:00-5:00 on Thursday! We had a really great turn out last time! I hope you can all make it to join other families and children for playtime and good company…and some tea and treats.

Friday, your children have a half day of school. They will be dismissed at 11:45. I know they are used to eating lunch before this time, and will in no doubt be hungry. 🙂 So….to go along with our informational writing standards, we will use a step by step direction to make our own PB and J sandwiches! We will then write and illustrate our steps!

There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Day! We will be talking about this great humanitarian and the legacy of kindness and fairness he left on our world.

We are in need of some baby wipes as well as dry erase markers. If you would like to donate some that would be super appreciated!

So….here you are…. some really, really cute pictures!!! Please read the captions below the pictures to learn more about what is happening in these adorable depictions of week 18 of Young 5s!
