Week of November 6th

Hello Families!

Happy 10th week of Young Fives! As we say goodbye to October and hello to November we are also starting a new card marking! I cannot believe how fast this year is going! Your children are such a joy in my life! Teaching them is a pleasure!

There is no school on Tuesday, November 7th for all students!

We will have a Pajama Day on Wednesday, November 8th! Please remember, your child needs to wear gym shoes with their pajamas. Thank you!

Reading: This week we will continue to practice the Three Ways to Read a Book as well as identifying the components of narrative literature! We will also practice how to tell/write about an event in our lives for narrative writing.  Your child can read a book by: 1. Reading the pictures, 2. Reading the words, 3. Retelling a familiar story. We will continue to build independence during Daily 5. We will practice Read to Self and Work on Writing, and Word Work!  We are up to 9 minutes of stamina where we are working independently on our Daily 5 choice!!! This week we will practice counting the number of syllables. We will also practice segmenting c-v-c words and and blending the sounds together. (ex. cat/ c-a-t/cat) We will learn the letters Zz and Pp and the sight words for, and said. Please practice writing these letters at home. Below is an example of how to write the letters. Please review the letters in their name as well as the letters Mm, Dd, Gg, Aa,Nn, Ii, Ss, Hh, Oo, Ff, Vv, and Tt. Please review: a, the, see, to, like, my, you ,I, it, in.

Math: We will work on counting to 100 and recognizing numbers and their quantities 1 to 10. This week we will practice writing the numbers 1-6 using dice! We will focus on representing numbers and quantities with a 10 frame. We will also talk about basic 2D shapes. We will also practice graphing data!

Science: We will continue learning about the 5 senses as we investigate claims we make about the world around us. We will also begin to learn about the sun!

Social Studies:  We will begin a unit called “How do we get what we need and want?”. We will begin to look at what are the things we need and how do we get what we need. We are also working with a program called Second Step. This program helps us learn about rules, social skills, and how to handle our emotions.

Writing: We will work on Narrative Writing! We will will draw, write, and dictate about an event. (ex. One day I …. ) Please continue practicing drawing people and pictures with your child. This helps them feel more confident when they are writing at school.
