Hello Families!
Check out these pictures of the Pumpkin activities we have been doing!
We have been reading informational books about pumpkins. We used our new sight word, like, to write our opinion about pumpkins. We counted pumpkins seeds. And…conducted two science investigations with pumpkins! Not to mention, we are learning to recite the poem, “5 Little Pumpkins”!
Yesterday, our book buddies, from 2nd grade, joined us as we investigated the claim that little things float and heavy things sink. After investigating, we discovered our little pumpkin AND our Big heavy pumpkin floated! This was so exciting! We recorded our claims and observations with out book buddies!
Today, we investigated the claim that there are seeds inside of our big pumpkin! The children decided we needed to cut it open to discover the evidence needed to support our claim. We discussed science safety as well as the tools needed to cut open our pumpkin. The children wore safety googles and used magnifying lenses.
After we discovered our pumpkin has seeds inside, we wondered about the tiny pumpkin too! The other day, we read an informational book that said the bigger the seed, the bigger the pumpkin. We wanted to investigate that claim. So….I cut open the little pumpkin! And….it’s true!!! The seeds we so little!
Thanks for all you do! And…thank you to Mr. Abu-Rus for joining us in our discussion about our science claim and investigation today!
