Hello Kindergarten Families!
Happy 20th week of Kindergarten! This is the beginning of the 3rd Card Marking! You should be receiving your child’s report card this week. Please see me if you have any questions or concerns.
I hope that each one of our students is able to login and access Clever for awesome learning opportunities with MobyMax and MyON. Please see me if you have questions about Clever. These online tools are great ways to practice for the NWEA as well as strengthen math and literacy skills.
Homework: Be sure to complete the daily homework assignments on the January calendar.
Spelling: Here are the words for this week. Please be sure to help your child practice EVERYDAY! The test is on FRIDAY! Your child will be tested on three word family words and three sight words. * We will also give your child a “cold word” to spell. This is a word that follows the pattern of the word family. (an ex. is fig)
- big
- pig
- wig
- look
- it
- you
Reading: We are practicing many reading strategies. This week we will practice reading strategies using informational books. We will also spend time learning how to blend the beginning sounds with the rime. We will also practice identifying rhyming words as well as number of syllables in a word. In addition to these strategies, we ask and answer questions about the text and identify the main idea. We will make connections between related texts. Please practice the following sight words: (These are words your child needs to recognize and read by sight.)
Review: if has from New words: as if come
Math: We will begin computation solving addition and subtraction word problems. Please practice simple addition and subtraction problems with your child at home. (ex. I have 5 green beans on my plate. I eat 2 green beans. How many do I have left?)
Science: We will begin a unit about living and non-living things. This week your child will learn the needs of a plant as well as distinguish between what is living and what is non-living.
Social Studies: We will learn about symbols of America such as the American Flag, Statute of Liberty, and the Bald Eagle.
Writing: This week we will review informational writing. We will work on writing about a topic and naming 2-3 facts about the topic. Please practice stretching for the sounds and using finger spaces between words with your child each day for homework. These writing skills are very important for moving into first grade.
Thank you for all you do!
