Highlights from the last 2 days

Hello Families!

Of course…we had another amazing day! Your children really are such a pleasure to spend time with. I am so blessed to be their teacher.

First…Tomorrow is SCIENCE and ENGINEERING NIGHT!!! This is a free event for the entire family! You will truly enjoy this night of hands on science and engineering activities!!! Please make plans on attending. The event is at 4:30 and ends at 6:00! I hope to see you all there! I’m so excited!

During the last couple of days we have been practicing identifying fiction and non-fiction books. Fiction books are books that are make-believe or fantasy. Non-fiction books are books that give us information. Here are some pictures of us doing an activity where we practiced identifying fiction and non-fiction books.

We have also been practicing recognizing numbers. We have learned some roll and record games to get us ready for math workshop rotations. Please practice counting to 100 with your  child each day as well as recognizing  numbers 1-20. I have also begun teaching informational writing to the children. I introduced the circle map as a tool to help us gather our ideas or in thins case facts about apples from the non-fiction book we read about apples. The children and I created this circle map together. Eventually, the children will create their own circle map and use it write informational pieces about a topic. We will continue our informational writing about apples this week.

Here is the anchor chart we made to help us remember what informational writing is as well as tool to use to check to see if our writing follows these guidelines for this genre.

Today we completed a writing activity that tied into our Social Studies unit. We wrote and illustrated about a good choice that we have made. This is part of the social studies assessment.

Please remember to bring in canned goods for local families in need!! Thanks!

Thank you for all you do! I hope to see you all tomorrow at Miller’s Science and Engineering Night!
