This Friday afternoon we will have our birthday bash. My room moms have everything taken care of, I just wanted to inform you 🙂 Happy Birthday to all of our sweet 3rd graders!
Week Of January 27th
Posted onAND….just when we thought testing was over 🙁 All 3rd grade teachers were informed last week that we need to give our students the NWEA reading screener test to satisfy the read by 3rd grade law. This testing should take no longer than an hour. If you have any concerns about any of this testing, please direct your concerns to Mr. Maleyko.
Other than that, we should be getting back to business as usual this week!
The Module Assessment in math that your child took will go home Monday. I am pleased with how the kids did on this challenging assessment 🙂 We will be starting Module 4 this week which focuses on area and perimeter. Please continue to practice multiplication facts for our weekly quizzes.
The kids are doing a good job collecting information for their severe storm group presentations. We had a fun activity on Friday . The kids had to work in partners to “engineer” a house that could withstand strong wind. I have attached some pictures. 🙂

January 22nd
Posted onI am sorry for not blogging earlier this week, but I’ve been deep in report cards and meetings :0 I DID, however, want to catch you up on a few things.
First, all students in our class have finished the reading and math portions of the winter NWEA. These scores will go home with your child’s report card this week (either Thursday or Friday- we have not been told yet). I am very happy with how the class as a whole did!! ALL of our math scores went up and most of our reading scores as well. What a hard-working group of kids I am blessed with. The language portion of the NWEA will be taken tomorrow morning.
Your child took his/her weekly multiplication quiz today and will be taking the end of Module 3 math assessment tomorrow. The review is in your child’s take home folder. Please look over 2-step story problems as many students struggled with this concept.
Due to the shortened week and continuous testing 🙁 I will NOT be giving a spelling test this Friday.
Thank you SO MUCH for your continued support. 🙂
Zearn
Posted onJust a quick note: Your child’s only homework tonight is to be up to Level 15 in Zearn. I have found that they kids who are consistently practicing with Zearn in class and at home and are keeping pace with our lessons are consistently doing better on math assignments and assessments. If you are having problems with computers or internet at home, please let me know asap.
Thank you!
Happy 2020!
Posted onI hope you all enjoyed your break. I am looking forward to seeing the kids again tomorrow. I missed them!
I am attaching a few pictures from our end of the year school sing-a-long. Two students from our class, Houda Hamka and Noor Fawaz generously gifted their hair at the Locks For Love event during the sing-a-long. This takes not only a very loving, generous heart, but also courage and I am so very proud of both of them! 🙂

As we begin, 2020, I want to say again how very blessed I feel. I have such a sweet, kind, smart group of kids this year! Thank you all for being such great parents. I’d also like to take a moment to thank all of you who donated time and contributed to our end of the year holiday party. The kids loved it!
This week we will be getting back into the swing of things. I will give you a rundown of each subject along with some reminders.
Math: Your child will be bringing home the results of the Mid-Module Unit 3 test that was taken the last week of school. We will be starting the second half of module 3 tomorrow. It focuses on the 7s, 8s, and 9s multiplication tables. If your child is still struggling with 2s-6s please please practice at home. Thank you! 🙂 Multiplication quizzes will begin this month.
Reading: We will be doing whole group close reading this week in preparation for the NWEA reading test.
Writing: We are writing an informational piece comparing ourselves to the 3 Fires Native American tribes.
Social Studies: We will begin our study of how Michigan became a state.
Science: We will start a short unit on severe weather this week.
As of right now, I am planning on having the reading portion of the NWEA test on Thursday of this week in the morning.

Week Of December 16th
Posted onAs we enter the last week of school before Christmas break, I’m going to try to update you on everything that will be going on this busy, busy week.
First, however, we had our November PBIS Assembly last week and I completely forgot to let you know who stayed on GREEN all month and who our new Student’s of the Month are! The students who stayed on green were: Zac A, Husayn, Madleen, Sophia, Norr, Dean, Natalia, Layla, Isabella, Zachary H,Hani, Abbas, Danya, Jawad, Maya, Hadi, Mila, Mousa, Owen and Joanne.
Our students of the month for November are Isabella and Mousa!

We had another AMAZING presentation from Justin who works at the Oakwoods Metro-park. His gave a lively and colorful presentation on the Voyagers who transported beaver furs from Michigan to Montreal during the 1700’s.

On December 20th (our last day of school for 2019) we will have a holiday breakfast for the kids. They will be eating at 9 am in the classroom, so you can send them to school hungry 🙂 They can also wear their PJ’s on that day! Slippers are okay but please do not send blankets or stuffed animals. Later that afternoon we will have our all school sing-a-long in the gym. Some students and adults will also be donating hair to Locks Of Love.
On Thursday, I will be giving the Math Module 3 mid-module assessment. A review will go home on Wednesday. I will be out of the building next week for meetings on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, but math review and testing will be in the morning when I am here.
Our class won Cocoa with Mrs. Claus for having good etiquette in the cafeteria in the month of November 🙂 This will take place sometime this week.
I think that’s it for now! I will send more later if necessary.
A Few Things
Posted onJust a reminder to all who still need to turn in $5 for our Holiday Breakfast Party on December 20th….please try to have this to school buy this Friday so I an pass it along to Mrs. Hamka who is doing the shopping 🙂
Also, the kids will be welcoming back Mr. Justin from the Metroparks this Friday! Our in school field trip last Friday was a huge success! The kids loved learning about the 3 Fires (The Ojibway, Odawa and Potawatomi Indians who lived in Michigan). This Friday, we will be learning about the French Fur Traders (voyageurs).
Here are some pictures from last week’s presentation. 🙂

The kids also had Officer Hansen from the Dearborn Police Department speak to them about internet and online safety yesterday. You may be seeing a pledge come home soon that your child is being asked to sign regarding Cyber Safety and Cyber Bullying.
Reminder!
Posted onTomorrow is our day to shop at the Holiday Boutique. Notes went home on Friday (unless your child was absent. You will see the note today.) Cash or checks may be sent in with your child tomorrow, along with the note about who your child is buying for.
Our shopping time is 10:30 a.m. but you do not need to be present for this. 🙂
