Our Dearborn High feeder track is asking parents and students to send pictures to their child’s teacher to post on school/classroom blogs in a show of solidarity. If you would like to participate, send your photos (following the daily theme on the post it note) to me at martinh@dearbornschools.org
If you have questions or concerns, please email our new principal at sabbagm1@dearbornschools.org
Hello everyone,
I put a video recording of myself on our Google Classroom reading Spiderwick chapter 5. This is the book I was reading aloud to the class when school closed.
I thought the kids may be missing the book and I thought they would like to hear me and see me 🙂 read it aloud.
Let me know if it doesn’t work. I had to use a youtube platform because it was the only thing I could get to accept the video without crashing.
Hello to all my students! I miss you SO much! I wanted to take a minute to thank all of you (and parents too, for your support!) for working so hard on the assignments that have been posted on our Google Classroom site. SO MANY of you are keeping pace with our Eureka Math program and using the videos and Zearn Link to learn the lessons. I see your progress when I log into the site and am so happy you are using it! The same goes for Raz-Kids. I see the stories you have completed and it makes my heart happy 🙂
Here are a few pictures that were sent to me of Houda and Dean learning at home! Houda learned how to make an x-ray of her hand (how cool!!) and Dean is hard at work on his computer. 🙂
hank you for sharing! I know it is very strange to be learning on your own and I want you to know that we will be getting more direction next Thursday (April 2nd) from our new Principal, Mrs. Sabbagh as to how to proceed with your online learning. Until then, keep up the good work!! Use the free links I sent in my last blog post and if you have forgotten, xtramath is still available to you. You all have accounts. Please use this to keep strengthening your multiplication skills. 🙂
I miss you all, but am very glad that you are safe with your families at this time.
Love and virtual hugs,
Ms. Martin
I hope this blog post finds all of you well. As we come to the end of our first week on remote learning, I want to thank all of you for your dedication to your child’s education, health and well-being. I know it can’t be easy 🙁 I miss being your child’s teacher and I truly hope we can continue the school year as normal soon! I miss each an every one of them very much!
I have heard from some students via google classroom and my email and it makes my heart happy to hear from them! Keep it coming! I welcome pictures of your child learning and will post them to this blog in an attempt to connect your children to their classmates. 🙂
I am attaching a google doc with a TON of free learning sites your child can access for added enrichment. My thanks to Marika Anthony for compiling all of these resources in one common doc! Please continue to have them complete the activities on Google Classroom, knowing that nothing needs to be turned in at this time.

Finally, I have had some questions about March is Reading Month. Our hope is to continue this event when school resumes, so please have your child keep on keeping track of their reading minutes!
Please direct any questions, concerns or pictures to my email: martinh@dearbornschools.org
I hope all of you are doing well and were able to access our online learning site through google classroom. If you had trouble getting into our classroom, please make sure your child is going in as THEMSELVES. Many times parents try to get their children into our google classroom using their own (parents) google account. It is important that your child logs in with their own login information (student number @dearbornschools.org and then their birthdate password)
I added a few flocabulary grammar lessons to our classroom today. 🙂
No work needs to be submitted to me. We do not have that capability yet. All written work can be done on paper and brought back to school when school resumes. 🙂 We tried to keep the written work to a minimum!
Please contact me if you have ANY concerns or questions.
Hello families,
I am writing this with mixed emotions. I understand completely why our school district, and districts around Michigan, have taken the measures they have. Everyone’s safety is what is most important. However, in 28 years of teaching I have never had an interruption in our school year quite like this one. I will miss your children! They are such an amazing group of kids, I feel like I am letting them down by not being there for them. 🙁 I know they need to be taught, I know they enjoy our classroom and socializing with their friends and I know it is a hardship for parents to both work and worry about caring for their children and their children’s education.
I am very grateful to all of you for your sacrifice and contribution to your child’s education these next few weeks. I will do everything I can to support your child during this necessary break. Please make sure to have your child go to our Google Classroom site to find learning that will keep your child on pace with our regular classroom learning. It is important that your child continue with our 3rd grade curriculum. You can contact me anytime, either through my blog or with my email (martinh@dearbornschools.org) whenever you have concerns or questions.
I will keep you updated as new information arises with my blog posts . Please take care and stay safe. And please give your children a special hug from me. I already miss them!
Parents,
Online learning for the next 3 weeks will be done through my Google Classroom Link. The kids DO know how to access this, but I will give you directions and the link as well 🙂
Have the kids login to Dearborn Public Schools on the student page. They will then click the link for CLEVER. They will go to the blue bear. (My Link) When they click on the bear it will bring them to my page. They can then access the Google Classroom link from that page.

There will be a section for MATH, READING, SCIENCE and SOCIAL STUDIES. Students should do ONE lesson a day in math and ONE lesson a day in Reading. The science and social studies you can pace as you wish.
I will be checking your child’s progress and communicataing with you further as needed. Please note, that we will be giving a quiz on the math material that should be covered at home when the children return to school. This is a way we can check for areas that may need to be clarified or retaught. Please try to hold your child accountable for the work. Thank you!!!
Hi Everyone,
Please click the link below to take the survey. This is ONLY a precaution, in case we need to go to remote learning.
I’d like to start this post with our all greens for February and our 2 new student’s of the month. The following children stayed on green the entire month of February: Zac, Husayn, Madleen, Noor, Dean, Natalia, Layla, Isabella, Zachary H. Danya, Jawad, Maya, Hadi, Mila, Mousa, Owen, Joanne
Our student’s of the month for February are Layla Hamade and Jawad Mouallem. 🙂 They did a fantastic job being responsible, respectful and safe in February!
All of our students made the reward for February, which was the Talent Show. I think the kids had a lot of fun!! 🙂 In March-June they kids cannot get more than 4 yellows, no blues and no reds in order to qualify for the reward. I do NOT think this will be a problem for this class!
As you may have noticed, we started Module 5 in math. This module covers fractions. This concept is brand new to some students, so please look over your child’s math homework each time it comes home. Together we can correct any misconceptions they may be having before moving on to the next lesson.
All students are in new literacy books and we are working on comprehension, vocabulary and fluency strategies. You should be seeing their books coming home occasionally for reading homework.
As you may have noticed, I am starting to include vocabulary on our weekly spelling tests if needed. The idea is to have the kids not only know how to spell the word, but to also know what the words mean. I know that in 4th grade this will be a requirement. This week, the words are pretty straight forward and understandable so their will be no vocabulary this week.
Other than our 1/2 day this Friday, we should have a full and productive week 🙂 Thank you for supporting your child’s reading minutes at home and making sure they return their reading logs on Fridays during the month of March! This Friday all Howard Students can wear their PJ’s to school and bring a stuffed animal. Student Council is asking for donations for this event. ($1 for Pjs and 50 cents for a stuffed animal)
Finally, I want to Thank Mrs. Sanderson-Price for coming to read Millions of Cats to our room!! We were so happy to have you!!
