Tomorrow I will be having our first Google Meet! I can’t wait to see all of my students 🙂 Here are the directions for joining:

Click on the live link in the Wednesday box that says Join Hangouts Meet. Do this at 11 am and it will take you directly into our meet! No codes necessary.

Please make sure to mute your mic. If you do not know how to do this I will show you when you get into our meet.

See you all tomorrow!!

Please know that I am learning along with you! Much of this online technology is new to me. I first want to make sure that everyone can access the online calendar. If you cannot, please email me ASAP. This calendar will tell your child what assignments they are to do each day this week. It has links that will take them into their google classroom or to the website that will be needed to complete the lesson. Please note that even if the assignment was posted into our classroom by Ms. Schug OUR CLASS MUST DO IT. As a 3rd grade team we are all going to be posting different things and sharing, therefore, your child may see my name, Ms. Schug or Ms. Minier.

Also, for the reading and math assignments this week, your child will need to either answer questions on a google doc (for reading) or do an exit task on a google doc (for math) and turn them in to me. This is the only way I can see if they are understanding the material and give them feedback.

It is SO important that your child continue to practice multiplication facts. xtramath.com is a GREAT way to have your child practice everyday. If you are concerned that your child is forgetting his/her facts or has not learned them all yet, please have your child practice on that sight EVERY DAY.

Finally, I am attaching a link to the Howard School Blog. You will find Ms. Thomas’ Art activities, Mrs. Bagnell’s music activities and Mr. Haliburda’s gym activities posted at the bottom of the scroll. 🙂

Week Of April 13th

Posted on

Hello everyone! PLEASE READ this important blog post.

I know that you were probably NOT informed of the Governor’s mandate for continued Online Learning for all students in the state of Michigan moving forward. I honestly thought the district would have told you the same thing they told teachers last week, but that appears to not have been the case.

Every Michigan school district has been given (per Governor Whitmer) until April 20th to submit a distance learning plan to the county (Wayne County Resa) for approval. They then have until April 28th to implement it.

As a third grade team (Ms. Schug, Ms. Minier and myself) we felt that it is SO important to continue your child’s learning as of tomorrow, April 13th and NOT wait until the 20th or even the 28th. Therefore, we WILL be posting assignments in google classroom tomorrow morning. These assignments will continue to focus on 3rd grade learning targets and WILL include new learning. I have added a tab to the top of this blog page entitled Online Learning Calendar. It is important that you click on that tab in order to see what is planned for your child each day this week.

Your child should use this calendar as a guide. Please be aware that the statewide mandate for distance learning requires children in grades 3-5 to have schooling for a minimum of 60 minutes and a maximum of 120 minutes per day. I know this doesn’t seem like a lot, but the district has to be mindful of families that may have 4 or even more students with only one device (computer). Also, the MATH link will be posted daily, as the videos are only shared with us on a daily basis.

In addition to the assignments we have put on the calendar, your child should also be using ZEARN, Moby Max and Raz-Kids as enrichment. They should also be getting daily exercise away from computer devices and TV, and maybe even participating in music or art (please enroll in Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Bagnell’s blogs). The kids also have access to Mrs. Turk’s Google Classroom for Media.

If you have ANY concerns or questions, please email me at martinh@dearbornschools.org I check this email often and will respond promptly! I hope that you are all healthy and doing as well as possible as we retain our social distance. Please give all of your children a hug from their teachers as we miss them very much!!

Report Cards

Posted on

Dear Parents,

The following is information that has been shared with me regarding your child’s 3rd Quarter report card. We graded this report card based on grades that had already been entered AS OF March 12th. I know this wasn’t a full quarter of learning, but the grades do accurately show how your child was doing as of the last day of official in-school instruction. If you have any questions or concerns or difficulty accessing your child’s grades, I will do my very best to help!!

Good Morning,
Following is some information for administrators on how parents can access report cards data in MIStar ParentConnect and how schools can help parents with login info if parents can’t login. Please note that if a parent uses ParentConnect, he/she should be able to see data for all their students and do not require separate logins for the different schools.

1. How do parents login to ParentConnect? To login to ParentConnect, parents need their PIN and password; there are 2 options to get this information.Option 1 (Screen below – Recommended): Parents go to Dearborn Schools web site then ParentConnect link. If they don’t know the login info, they click (Need Your Login Information) link and it will prompt them to enter their email address as provided to the school and entered in MIStar (Menu/Enrollment/Student Editor/Contacts) and click Submit. This process emails them their PIN and Password.

Option 2 (Screen below): If parents are unable to receive the email (no email, etc) and administrators need to provide the info, administrators can access MIStar Menu / System / ParentConnect Manager / Contacts Passwords as indicated below. Even though Option 2 is available for administrators, Option 1 is recommended because parents have to login to their email to retrieve the info and you can always add the email in Student Editor/Contacts if missing.

Spirit Week Thursday

Posted on

I’m sorry for the late post! I spent much of the day digesting the governor’s news and in meetings (virtual of course!) learning how we can support your child’s learning in these upcoming weeks. I am very sad and heartbroken that this is the way my beautiful year with your children is going to end. But after much thought today, I am determined to make it as positive as possible. Your kids deserve that much!! YOU deserve that much!! We WILL get through this as a team.

That being said, I will spend next week (spring break officially) working on lessons and activities for your children. I will also be learning how to do SAFE weekly google hangouts with your children at a pre-set time. Zoom is discouraged because of the potential for outsiders to get ahold of your children’s online sessions. We need to make sure our children stay safe, which is why I have hesitated to use an online platform before getting official direction from the district. I want nothing more than to interact with your child online and will be happy to do so after spring break!! 🙂

Here are some photos of our students sporting their crazy socks! Thank you Houda for telling us how you are staying safe :):)

Remember, if you want to participate tomorrow, the theme is: send a picture of you doing an activity that helps you practice social distancing and keeps you busy 🙂

Owen’s neon socks!
Maya’s fun with crazy socks!

Some info and Spirit Wednesday!

Here are some pictures of our students sharing “what they are reading today.” Thank you!

In honor of “what I am reading today” I posted another video of Spiderwick to our Google Classroom. Please encourage your child to go there and listen. 🙂 If they missed the other readings, they can scroll down and find them before listening to today’s reading.

Finally, Mrs. Turk would like to ask all 3rd graders to visit her MEDIA google classroom to find some fun activities. 🙂

Spirit Tuesday

Hello everyone! Just a reminder, if you are interested in sharing photos for spirit week- please try to have them shared by 5:00 pm each day. I will post a little after 5:00 pm. Today is: share a photo with something you have created (could be something you built- like Natalia’s diorama, created-like Hadi’s hat and Houda’s xray, or something else entirely!)

Owen is doing kitchen window science experiments!

Week Of March 30th

As I type this I am saddened because we are now in social distancing until the end of April 🙁 I am hoping to learn more this week as to the district (and state) plans for furthering your child’s education during this crisis. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to all of you for helping your child stay in a “learning” mindset for at least part of their day. It is my goal to provide you with more extended learning very soon!

Please continue to finish the activities that are already posted to our Google Classroom site if you have not already done so.

As promised, I am posting more pictures of our students learning at home 🙂 Thank you for sharing! I absolutely love this!

Maya with her ipad 🙂 *that just happens to match her slippers!!!

Natalia has made a diorama of a native american village! I LOVE the garden Natalia!!
