Past week

Lots of work has been completed this week. You all are doing a great job. We’ll keep practicing submitting work on Google Classroom. This is something many around the district are learning even the principals daughters were having trouble at first. Practice makes perfect!

Have a nice weekend. Rest, relax and have fun with your families.

Bye For Now!

“Morning Message”

Happy “Fun Day” Friday First graders, and Ramadan Mubarak to those who are observing. Today is going to be a little relaxed being that it’s the beginning of Ramadan.

Just do a little Reading, Math, Writing, or Google Classroom activities. NO RUSH!!! Be sure to hit “submit”.

birthday wishes for kids

Apparently we missed a few birthdays during this time of social distancing. Hussein’s Salem’s birthday was April 7th, Rabi Tamer’s birthday was April 13th, and Zeinab Hadla’s was last Saturday on April 18th. Congrats to all of you and I hope you had a great day.

Students of the Week

I know we had a few students who never got to be the student of the week before the school closing. I always randomly picked the new student from a group sticks with your names on them. I marked them after you were picked. I don’t have these sticks. If you could let me know who you are I can set up some activities for you to do during your week. I’m thinking:

  1. Make a poster to share out.
  2. Read a book to the class. (own video or on a google meet)
  3. Special show n tell
  4. Show us something you know how to do or a science experiment.
  5. Picture of you being the line leader in your house.

Distribution of more Chromebooks

Hello Howard Families,

We hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy! We have great news for those families who missed previous opportunities to pick up a Chromebook and were still needing one! We will have a third day for Chromebook distribution in a drive-up format in front of the school’s main entrance (please stay in your car as we must practice social distancing). The Chromebook distribution will be held on Tuesday, April 28th from 3:00-4:30. Please keep in mind that you will be asked to sign a contract stating that you will be held responsible for the upkeep of the Chromebook that will need to be returned to the school after the shutdown. If you plan on coming to pick up a Chromebook, we ask that you fill out this Survey for planning purposes. This survey also gives you an opportunity to request support in attaining internet/wifi service if you are in need of this.

Please rest assured that all Chromebooks will be disinfected before the distribution, therefore, completing this Survey will help us to be better prepared. Thank you for your ongoing patience, understanding, and cooperation. Just as a reminder, for your safety, no parents or students will be allowed in the school building. We will keep you posted if and when this changes, as we know that some students would like their belongings. However, we do not have any information regarding this at this time. Please stay home and stay safe!

Take care,

Mrs. Sabbagh

Morning Message

Good Morning First graders and parents, I hope all is going well with your families. I have just put a Math quiz on google classroom. You just have to put the number sentence that goes with the problem in the text box at the bottom of the problem.

I can see most of you have been really getting into this remote learning, evidenced by all the emails with assignments attached. I have folders (writing, spelling, and math) on my google drive where I have been downloading these documents. This will be my evidence of your work for the 4th report card, along with the assignments on google classroom where I get reports on what has been “turned in” .

Please remember to put your name on assignments you send me, because when I go through my folder I won’t remember whose writing, Math, or spelling this is. I won’t be be downloading every document you send to the blog.

Assignment Questions

I’m so sorry for all the confusions on assignments, logging into sites, and showing evidence of all your child’s work. I hope this helps. I’ve talked with my First grade team, and we all seem to be on the same page.

Reading is mostly online or in actual books, but answers to questions or retellings can be in their notebook or on google docs.

Science and Social Studies activities are usually on google classroom with readings or videos on ReadWorks or youtube.

Math is completed in their workbook or quizzes on Google classroom.

Spelling is completed in their notebooks or on google docs. Emailing me pictures of some not all of your work is great. The students love to see their work on the blog. I can create assignments for some spelling and reading on google classroom.

Writing can be completed in their notebook/paper (send a picture) or on google docs.

*When students type their stories or assignments, they then share it with me so I can instantly edit their work, make comments. The updated documents are on their Google docs for them to see later on. This is what Google docs is used for.

Peregrine falcons can fly.   They are the fastest birds. They can fly up to 200 miles per hour. They can live in cold tundras to a hot desert. They can live low near the ocean and as high as the mountains. They find a shallow place near some rocks or a building for their nest. Female peregrines either lay two or 4 eggs each time. Peregrines are carnivores. They eat meat like starlings, pigeons and doves. Their lifespan is up to 17 years. Peregrine Falcons are cool birds.

Good Morning Parents and Students I hope this message finds you ready for a new day. I know this remote learning can be a little tricky and confusing at times. It’s this same for me also. Generic Schedule Work Times

Dear Howard School Parents –

The district has developed a learning plan for your children that meets the recommendations of the state of Michigan.  Within the plan, there is a recommended amount of “work minutes” for each subject that is determined by your child’s grade level.

It is important that the definition of “work time” is understood by parents, guardians, and students.  When your child is learning or practicing skills /cooking, playing an instrument or developing an interest. We also need to encourage our children to have conversations with people outside of our homes during this time- calling (not a text – hearing a voice is important) a friend, neighbor or relative can help him/her feel comfortable.  Here are three different types of “times.”  “Think-time,” “work-time,” and “play-time.”  Please read below and take note of the “work time” explanation.

The first is “think time.” This involves activities such as watching videos, listening to stories/lectures, reading over materials, watching or participating in demonstrations, rewatching videos or explanations when mistakes are made or other similar activities. These are the activities that lead up to your child working on and completing an assignment.

The second is “work time”.  There are recommendations from the  state and district for the amount of “work time” per subject depending on grade level. “Work time” is the amount of time your child is continually engaged in completing an assignment without breaks or distractions.   This is the time he/she will be working on things such as actively solving math problems, writing/typing responses, identifying answers within passages or completing assignments in online learning sites chosen by his/her teacher.  It is important to realize every child is different with individual learning styles, needs, and speed – the state is recommending these times as a guideline. Adjustments in the amount of time need to be considered to accommodate your individual child’s style and needs.

The third is “leisure/play time”.  This is important to balance your child’s day, to manage stress and develop other parts of your child’s brain.  More than ever your child needs to do activities that involve relaxation and creativity. This time can include special area activities: drawing, creating projects, crafts, board games, building with legos or blocks, card games, puzzles, imaginative play, Continuity of learning plan-“Work Time”
