Activities for May 11th

I hope that everyone had a Happy Mother’s Day yesterday!! As I wrote May 11th I realized that the school year is done on June 11th. Wow, I can’t believe it is already May and school would be out in one month. It is really weird not being at school for all of the end of year activities. I hope that the weather will cooperate. It makes it much easier to be at home with young kids when the weather is nice and you can go outside a couple of times a day. Here we go with a new week and a new letter but first our good morning song.

Letter of the Week

Our letter is D! D says dah like door, dog, doctor and dinosaur. Here is a song about D.

How many D’s can you count in the sentence below? Count them.

Daisy duck dropped her dogs off at doggy daycare.

Now write the letter D that many times. Then listen to the D story below to hear even more words that start with the letter D.

Math

For math today I would like you to explore the math site Happy Numbers that I set up for you. I created an account for each student. Click on the link below. Click on your child’s name and the password is 5.

Work Time

Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with.  Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).

Work Time (45-60 minutes): During work time kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS.  Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.

Clean Up (about 15 minutes):  Kids clean up the mess they have made while playing.

Recall Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”)

Story Time

This week we will be listening to a different story each day. Some of them you child should know very well. This is one of those books and all of the kids have loved it. This read aloud has real pictures in it that I thought would be different and fun for the kids to look at.

Movement/Outside

Hopefully we will have lots of sunshine today. Make sure to get outside and move your body! Here is a song about sunshine…

I hope you all have a great day!!
