Letter of the Week
Our letter this week is O. Remember that capital O and lowercase o look exactly the same.
Plants Growing All Around
This week our story was Fran’s Flower. We talked lots about plants, their parts and what they need to grow! Here is one more story about a plant growing. The title is Bright Yellow Flower.
If you have been outside to play, ride your bike or take a walk I’m sure you have noticed the new flowers growing outside. Have you noticed that they are all different colors. It makes it look like a beautiful rainbow outside. Draw a picture of a flower. Remember to include the flower, stem and leaves (remember we don’t see the roots because they are under the ground). Don’t forget to color you flower. I wonder what color you will choose. Please send me a picture of your flower. I can’t wait to see them all.
Math
Let’s think about comparing sizes. Mrs. Lott is taller/bigger than you. A house is taller/bigger than Mrs. Lott. Let’s think about flowers now. Find a flower with your parent. Tell your mom or dad 5 things that are bigger than that flower. Now tell your mom or dad 5 things that are smaller than that flower. There are so many things around us to compare. If you want to keep comparing find 5 things that are bigger than YOU and 5 things that are smaller than YOU!
Work Time
Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with. Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).
Work Time (45-60 minutes): During work time kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS. Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.
Clean Up (about 15 minutes): Kids clean up the mess they have made while playing.
Recall Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”)
Movement Activity
I hope everyone has a great day!! Don’t forget to send me a picture of your flower drawing. I can’t wait to see them.
