Good morning! Make sure that you check out this blog post but also the post that I created last night. The one from last night is about Kindergarten and Young 5’s Registration. McDonald school is having a packet pick-up today and tomorrow from 10:00 to 2:00pm.
Letter of the Week
O says the sound that Orange, octopus and October start with. Here is another one of our O songs…
Go for a walk outside and see if you can find the letter O. It doesn’t have to be at the beginning of a word. It can be in the middle too. Make sure you check signs all around you.
Fran’s Flower or Grow Flower Grow
Here is our second reading of Fran’s Flower.
Draw any three things you can remember from the story WITHOUT LOOKING at the book or videos. So we have talked about the parts of a plant…flower, stem, leaves and roots We have also talked about what plants need to grow…water, air and sunlight Now we also need to know that all plants start as just a tiny seed. When Fran found her flower there was already a tiny green tip. Usually we plant a tiny seed or seeds in the soil (dirt). Sometimes we plant them but sometimes nature just does it for us. When we see little white fuzz being blown in the wind…those are really seeds. Here is a story about seeds.
Math
See how many fruits you can think of. All fruits have seeds inside of them. Do you have any fruit at your house? If you have fruit, count how many different kinds of fruit you have. Now pick a fruit for a snack and when you open up the fruit see if you can find any seeds. If you can find the seeds, count them and see how many seeds there are.
Work Time
Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with. Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).
Kids will tell you what they are planning to do/want to play with/how they will use toys at home.
Work Time (45-60 minutes): During work time kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS. Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.
Clean Up (about 15 minutes): Kids clean up the mess they have made while playing.
Recall Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”)
Movement
Have a great day!
