Happy Monday! It was so much fun seeing the boys and girls that I was able to see on Friday when I dropped materials off at your houses! I really miss all of you but it made me happy to see you. It is the Season on Spring right now and we are right in the middle of it with beautiful things happening all around outside. We had a couple of days of rain and then a couple of days of sunshine and now…I see green leaves on trees and lots of flowers. This week we will be talking about flowers growing! But first our letter of the week…
Letter of the Week
Our letter of the week this week is letter O or o. Capital O and lowercase o look exactly the same. O sounds like Octopus, Otter, October. It can also say it’s name O in a word like Open, Over. Here is a song about Oo.
Find some items in your house that start with the letter O. See how many items you can find.
Story of the Week
Fran’s Flower is one of our books that we read 4 times and then put out 4 copies for the kids to enjoy reading together. We didn’t get a chance to read it before we started “at-home” learning so we will listen to this 4 times. This story is about trying to get a flower to grow.
Does anyone know what a flower NEEDS for it to grow?? I will give you a hint. There are 3 things that flowers need to help them grow. Draw a picture of what a flower needs for it to grow and then listen to the story.
Now that you have heard the story look back at your ideas of what a flower needs to grow. Were you right? In the story Fran’s Flower needed rain, air and sunlight. All flowers, plants and trees need rain, air and sunlight to grow.
Math
When you are outside today see how many flowers you can find around your house, just in your front or back yard. Count them and then write that number 5 times.
Work Time
Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with. Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).
Kids will tell you what they are planning to do/want to play with/how they will use toys at home.
Work Time (45-60 minutes): During work time kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS. Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.
Clean Up (about 15 minutes): Kids clean up the mess they have made while playing.
Recall Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”)
Have a great day!
