Welcome back from Memorial Day break!  We hope that it was a great one for all.  This week we will be continuing with the adventure novel The Cay by Theodore Taylor.  We will be looking at the introduction to the book and discussing the pyramid of action.   We will also continue to work on Lesson 6 in our vocabulary unit.

Work for Week of May 12

This week we will be looking at how different view points can change a story, writing journal entries and working on Vocabulary Lesson 6.  On Friday students will take their final SRI test to see how they have grown as readers.  SRI will also generate a list of recommend books based on students interests and lexile score. Students are encouraged to bring a flash drive to save this report to use for potential summer reading.

Week of May 5th

Welcome to the final marking period of 6th grade. It sure has flown by. This week we will be wrapping up the research paper on bullying and completing the reading of The Call of the Wild and Lesson 5 Vocabulary. A change has been made to the reading log format. Students are expected to continue reading at home 5 times a week for a total of 100 minutes a week.  Of the 5 times 3 should be reading their good-fit book and two should be on Moby Max. There is a form for students to fill out and a one question weekly response to be completed at home. Your child will need you to sign the form daily. See the link  below for the new form.

Welcome Back to the last week of the 5th marking period! This week we will be continuing to read Call of the Wild and revising and editing the research essay on bullying.  We will begin Lesson 5 of Vocabulary.

Week of April 14, 2014

This week we will continue to work on our cause and effect essay.  We will begin working on our introductions and will start looking at how to insert research into the essay and document correctly. We will also continue with reading The Call of the Wild and work in Literature Circles in order to gain a deeper understanding of the story.

In lieu of a reading log, the students will be expected to log on and complete an assignment from the following two websites. I have inserted a screen shot of each website so you can make sure you have made it to the correct website.  The links are not active so you have to edit, copy and paste the address on your own.

Work for Week of April 7

We will be continuing reading  Call of the Wild, working on research and doing Vocabulary Lesson 4.

Homework: Students should be reading for 20 minutes a night and completing a reading log for each night that they read. Over the weekend they are to write a summary of what they read and turn it all in on Monday.

 

Extra Credit: Students may chose to join the community events that go with Call of the Wild and share their experience with the class. All are at Henry Ford  Library this week.
