Work for Week of March 24th

This week we will begin reading Jack London’s Call of the Wild. This book is being read citywide.

We will also begin researching for our essay on the effects of bullying.

Vocabulary has a slight change. Students  will be on the lookout for 4 new and interesting words in Call of the Wild and adding them to a new form. These words will be due every Friday.  Here is he link to all of the activities around town:

Week of March 17, 2014

This week we will begin Unit 2 in our vocabulary study.  We will also begin our unit on The Call of the Wild by Jack London.  We will start by reading about the author, a short introduction to the novel and an introduction to the characters.  We will also work on our cause and effect essay on the topic of bullying.

 

We will be holding Parent/Teacher Conferences on Wednesday, March 19th from       4 p.m. – 7 p.m.   We will be holding scheduled conferences from 4:00 – 5:30 and open conferences from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

**If you did not receive a personal invitation please feel free to stop in from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

This week you will be finishing your first Vocabulary Unit.  We will be taking a district test on comprehending grade level text. You will be given a passage to read and will need to answer 4 Close and Critical questions.  We will begin cause and effect writing as well.

Welcome Back!

This week you will revise and edit your essay on rocks. The typed final copy is due on Friday and will count for a Science grade as well as Language Arts.  You will also be reading “Tuesdays of the Other June”. You will be able to summarize, identify text-type, theme, and make connections.

This week we will be looking at comparing and contrasting.  Students will compare and contrast Martin Luther King Jr. to Ruby Bridges. They will also be writing a compare contrast essay based on rocks to support their studies in science.

Week of January 27, 2014

This week we will practice and  presenting our, “I Have a Dream” speech and continue our study on the Civil Rights Movement.  The district writing prompt will be given on Wednesday and completed the same day.

**There is a new addition to the reading log that we explained to the students today, the fifth entry should be a summary of what was read that week  We attached an example of what an entry should look like in order to get full points.

This week we will be examining the life of Martin Luther King Jr. You will then begin to compose your own ” I Have a Dream” speech that you will deliver to the class.
