3/4’s warm and cool weavings

My 3/4 Montessori students painted with warm and cool colors to create these beautiful weavings. They measured and cut their warp strips (math in art! Sneaky!) and wove the black weft strips over and under.

Students could paint whatever symbol they wanted, so long as they used warm colors for the shape and cool colors for the background.

Prior to this project, grades 3/4 worked with geometric and organic shape with this collage inspired by artist Reggie Laurent.

Howe Happenings

Here is a quick recap of what special needs students at Howe have been up to this school year. It is my first year at Howe and I’m so impressed with our artists!

This was one of our first big projects where we studied different kinds of line.

We have also worked with primary and secondary colors and color mixing. The following two examples were made with a focus on warm and cool colors as well as cutting and gluing.

My favorite project so far! Monoprints using the do a dot markers. Students colored on top of small mirrors and then pressed a damp piece of paper on top of their design and pulled prints. We used a string with black paint and shiny ribbon to add extra flair.
