Today’s Assignments, 9/30/20

Details of the day:

LOG IN: We will be logging in at 8:55am per usual today. Today will consist of our morning meeting as a whole group. We will discuss our writing prompt, our mood meter, and the weather before watching our Social Emotional Learning episode. Once our morning meeting is done we will be splitting off into groups to work at approximately 9:20am.

Group A will remain online with CAMERAS on to complete the NWEA MATH ASSESSMENT, while Group B will go asynchronous (offline from ZOOM) and complete the recorded lessons – all writing, reading, and math activities for the day. 

Group B – Asynchronous work. Complete all items below (1-5) clicking on the hyperlinks to access lessons and assignments:

1.    You will listen to a story on ReadWorks about Abe Lincoln and the 13th amendment. You will complete the quiz at the end.

2.     You will watch the grammar lesson and take notes in your ELA notebook. Complete the exit ticket on the synonym and antonym lesson.

3.    Next, watch three writing mini lessons on Informational Writing and TAKE NOTES IN YOUR NOTEBOOK. Review each video as many times as you need to fully understand. Friday you will be writing your FINAL copy of your informational HOW TO and you will submit pictures of your brainstorming, pre-writes, and drafting.

4.   Work on the math Mid Module Review assessment. Due Friday by 4pm. Test Next Week.

5.   Complete M1L15 in Zearn. You must be on Lesson 16 by the end of the day.

YOU WILL BREAK FOR LUNCH AT 11:45

LOG IN: We will ALL come back together in the afternoon at 12:25, to take attendance and discuss science. You will then be working asynchronously to complete your work.

Afternoon Asynchronous Work: (ALL STUDENTS)

Science:

  1. View the science video Do Worms Really Eat Dirt? Take notes on what you discover about worms in your Science notebook.
  2.  Watch the video Worms at Work and answer the exit ticket. 
  3. Check on your Food Terrarium. Make a note on it’s progress.

ELA:

  1. 20 minutes of choice reading
  2. ReadWorks article-a-day reading and assignment

*SCHEDULE WILL LOOK THE SAME THURSDAY WITH GROUP A & B FLIPPING ASSIGNMENTS.

  1. Watch the recorded lesson for Benchmarks Review and Routines Day 15 taking notes in your ELA notebook when appropriate. Use the document, Annotate an Article to make a copy and complete your annotation work.
  2. Next, watch your two writing mini lessons on Informational Writing and TAKE NOTES IN YOUR NOTEBOOK. You need to create a brainstorm and organization page with YOUR own How-To Topic that you are going to be writing about this week. Brainstorming  AND Organizing a Paragraph

  3.  Lastly, Complete M1L14 in Zearn. You must be on Lesson 15

LOG IN: We will ALL come back together in the afternoon at 12:25, to complete social studies. We will discuss the assignment and take afternoon attendance. You will then be working asynchronously to complete your work.

Social Studies:

  1. View the recorded lesson for today and take notes in your Social Studies Notebook: Link 
  2. Open the Exit ticket and try to determine the Amendments ON YOUR OWN. Scan the QR code with your phone or tablet to see if you are correct! If you made a mistake, make a note of it in your notebook and STUDY THAT AMENDMENT! Test is next week*

ELA:

  1. 20 minutes of choice reading
  2. ReadWorks article-a-day reading and assignment

Once our morning meeting is done we will be splitting off into groups to work at approximately 9:20am.

Group A will remain online with CAMERAS on to complete the NWEA READING ASSESSMENT, while Group B will go asynchronous (offline from ZOOM) and complete the recorded lessons – all writing, reading, and math activities for the day. *Tuesday will look exactly like Monday however groups A and B will switch.

LOG IN: We will ALL come back together in the afternoon at 12:15 (DIFFERENT TIME), to complete science. We will break into our groups to review our experiment and then asynchronously you will watch a generation genius video, completing a quiz game, and finishing an exit ticket online. You MUST complete science by 1pm to go to Art.

Asynchronous Science: (ALL STUDENTS)

YOU MUST HAVE YOUR MOLD TERRARIUM SET UP TODAY. You will get your chosen three pieces of food wet and placed in your decided upon container. You will seal the food off and keep it in your chosen spot. You will watch it for the next 11 days and send me a picture of it on the 11th day. Each student will be completing their observations and making their notes in the shared document independently now. There is no more “group” work to do. All students will be graded specifically on their contribution, mold terrarium, and observations.

Review paperwork for at-home science experiment. Set up your experiment and record on required days. This experiment will take the next two weeks.

Writing to a prompt today: We watched the 2nd mini lesson on writing. You will continue your google doc from yesterday’s entry and turn it into your ONLINE JOURNAL. RENAME your document to your name + online journal (example: Dana’s ONLINE JOURNAL). You will do this by simply clicking on the title in the upper left box. Use your September writing prompts and choose a NEW entry to write about.
