PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our core vocab word of the week was “eat”
  • We practiced using the word “eat” in many ways. The children requested to eat lunch and snack and we practiced using the word eat while combining it with certain foods such as cracker and banana
  • Our letter of the week was “E”
  • We practiced the letter “E” by reading an interactive book and searching through our bean bin for objects that start with the letter “E,” we did an elephant bingo sheet and sang letter “E” songs
  • The children worked on identifying the first letter of their name during morning attendance and while we read our name book during story time
  • We read “Go Away Big Green Monster” and sang along with the song on the iPad
  • The students practiced counting, number recognition, and 1:1 correspondence with the story “5 Hungry Ghost”
  • We had picture day and the students all tried their best to smile for their picture 😉
  • The children made shape jack-o-lanterns and got to choose which shapes to use for their eyes, nose, and mouth
  • We practiced 1:1 correspondence with different size and shaped ice cube trays and different objects to place in the divided sections, such as pumpkin erasers, spider rings, and blocks
  • The children also practiced sorting by color with our color/counting bears

Newsletter for the Week of October 8th

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our core vocab word of the week was “down”
  • We practiced using the word “down” in many ways. The children completed different tasks such as pushing the handle down and watching the ball go down the gumball machine, going down the slide, going down stairs,  gluing down pictures that start with the letter “d” and singing “All the Leaves are Falling Down”
  • Our letter of the week was “D”
  • We practiced the letter “D” by reading an interactive book and searching through our bean bin for objects that start with the letter “D,” we did a dinosaur bingo sheet and sang letter “D” songs
  • The children worked on identifying the first letter of their name during morning attendance
  • We read “We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt” and even went on our own leaf hunt walk!
  • The students practiced counting, number recognition, and 1:1 correspondence with the poem “5 Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate”
  • Yvonne read us a preposition story about pumpkins and we worked on following directions and putting the pumpkin where the story told us, such as on top of our head or under our hands
  • The children made marble painting spider webs then rolled a dice and counted how many spiders to add to their web. These projects are hanging outside our classroom

 PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our core vocab word of the week was “can”
  • We practiced using the word “can” in many ways. The children completed different tasks such as completing puzzles, putting buttons through a slot, and playing different instruments all while saying “I can!” afterwards using core vocab boards, vocalizations or our voice output device
  • Our letter of the week was “c”
  • We practiced the letter “c” by reading an interactive book and searching through our bean bin for objects that start with the letter “c,” we did a crab bingo sheet, traced circles, and sang letter “c” songs
  • The children worked on identifying the first letter of their name with our class book and then decorated the letter of the name with Halloween stickers
  • We read “We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt.” This is our free scholastic book of the month so watch for it in your child’s bag next week!
  • The students practiced counting, number recognition, and 1:1 correspondence with the story “Five Hungry Ghost”
  • We practiced our fine motor skills with puzzles this week!
  • The children helped read an interactive book about things we see in the fall and then we did leaf rubbings
  • We also played on the playground almost every day! We want to get in as much playground time as we can while the weather is still nice

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our core vocab word of the week was “big”
  • We practiced using the word “big” in many ways. The children played a file folder game where they choose the big objects to place on a big book, we sorted big and small elephants, and sang songs about things that are big and small
  • Our letter of the week was “b”
  • We practiced the letter “b” by reading an interactive book and searching through our bean bin for objects that start with the letter “b,” we did a butterfly bingo sheet, sorted colored bears, and made black bats
  • We read “The Napping House” and “The Seals on the Bus” during which we practiced making animal sounds
  • The students had group therapy with Ms. Staci and Ms. B (our speech therapist sub while Mrs. Gallery is out on maternity leave). During group we sang mat man and put his body together with wooden pieces and then we made a mat man snack with pretzels
  • Ms. B brought in bubbles and the children made choices from a choice board to determine where on their body they wanted her to blow bubbles (on their arm, leg, hand, etc) and we practiced identifying body parts
  • We also had a practice tornado drill this week. The children did a good job staying quiet and trying to keep their heads down

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • Our core vocab word of the week was “all” and the letter of the week was “A”
  • We practiced using the word “all” in many ways. The children played a file folder game where they put all sorts of pictures of things that start with the letter “a” in the air.  We took turns putting all the blocks away.  The children completed a worksheet that they glued all the airplanes in the air
  • We read “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” and practiced making letter sounds while placing foam letters on our Boom Boom tree
  • The students helped read our interactive letter “A” book and using bingo markers to complete their letter A page
  • We read the napping house
  • The students searched through our bean sensory tub for objects that start with the letter “A”
  • We practiced scooping up oatmeal at the sensory table
  • The students danced to the song “All fall down”
  • We practiced big and little by sorting elephants and reading a big and little shape book

PEEK AT THE WEEK

 

  • Our core vocab word of the week was “go.” The students practiced using the word “go” with a toy car.  We would say “ready, set, go” and then they drove the car up to a stop sign
  • We read “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” and practiced making letter sounds while placing foam letters on our Boom Boom tree
  • The students practiced number recognition and counting with our back to school interactive book. We also built towers as many blocks high as the number on each page we read
  • We painted at the easel and then turned our paintings into crayons that are hanging outside of our classroom
  • The students worked on their book handling skills.  We practiced turning pages from left to right and pointing to pictures on the pages
  • The children practiced their fine motor skills with all sorts of different tasks, including puzzles, lacing, and button and peg jars
  • We played outside on the playground. We love going down the slides!

PEEK AT THE WEEK

  • The students have continued to work on getting back into/ learning our classroom schedule and routines
  • We having be practicing sitting in our big kid chairs and walking to specials
  • We played on the playground and went for nature walks
  • Our core vocab word of the week was “more.” The students practiced requesting more food at lunch and at snack and also requested for me to blow more bubbles during large group
  • We read an interactive book about colors and used bingo markers to fill a page with the color of our choice
  • The students practiced counting with our Five Little Monkey cookie sheet game
  • We read “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” and practiced making letter sounds while placing foam letters on our Boom Boom tree
  • The students listened to a story about following rules at school
  • We read our class book “First Letters in Our Names” and then everyone stamped the first letter of their name
  • The children practiced their fine motor skills with all sorts of different tasks, including puzzles, lacing, and button and peg jars
