TGIF!
Today in math we completed our ISN set up. We added Words Worth Knowing (WWK) pages, our slot pockets, a space for plickers, and started our first activity-“Five Important Things About Math Class.” If you did not finish coloring with a purpose please do that this weekend.
We also took a Five Minute Frenzy multiplication quiz. We will be charting our progress throughout the year!

Today we started working on our ISN’s (Interactive Student Notebook). We labeled our table of contents up to page 172. Please try and have your cover ready by tomorrow!
We also started to work with pentominos. Students manipulated different shapes to make rectangles!

We also worked on “Numbers about me!” Students were asked to come up with 8 numbers that describe them. Check out the front of their binders to see your student’s work of art!
At the end of our block we passed out to the 6th graders their Interactive Student Notebooks. Students will need these notebooks everyday! We will be creating our own math book out of them! More to come as the year goes on…..
Today we begin our last big unit of the year, which covers statistical questions, collecting, graphing, and analyzing data, as well as mean, median, mode. This unit has several investigations, including a trashketball lab, paper airplane lab, and chocolate chip cookie analysis. As we go through the unit I will try and post pictures of our data collection activities.
We will also start getting ready for the M-Step test at the end of May. Homework this month will focus around reviewing the units from the year.
This week is Ratios and Proportions Common Assessment Week! Because the common assessment is quite long, I thought it would be less stressful if we did it in parts. Please use the study guides at home as well as ISN pages for a review.

At the right there is a link for Khan Academy and NWEA. If you log in or register for Khan Academy, which is free, you can view tutorial videos for your NWEA score range. These videos are very helpful, and you can then practice those skills on ixl.com. Any grade level is available for you on ixl.com.
For those students who would like an extra credit opportunity, here is a list of ixl.com topics that they can complete during the vacation. They should have their user names and passwords with them at home to log in.

By tomorrow, all students need to complete their ixl.com assignments. We will have time in class today and tomorrow to complete them. However, they may be completed at home as well.
The Common Assessment for Equations and Expressions will be on Thursday, February 27. Attached here are review sheets that we completed in class. If you have any missing information, this will be the place to find them. We are reviewing this week Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Over the next two weeks, students will need to complete some topics on ixl.com. This will be a great way for them to review for the common assessment that they will take on Friday, February 13. All topics have been covered or will be covered by Tuesday, February 10.
If students need computer access, I am here after school each Tuesday and Thursday from 3-4:45. There is a bus that students can take after school, or they can get a ride home or walk home. Please let me know in advance if your student will be staying after school.
