Reading: We will be reading stories and identifying the characters, settings, and major events. We will do this by completing story maps. Additionally, we will learn how to compare and contrast the characters in two stories by looking closely at similarities and differences.

Writing: We are continuing to write stories with a beginning, middle, and end. The last sentence in our narrative will provide a sense of closure. They wrote narratives about the Three Little Pigs and they are displayed in the hallway. They did a fantastic job with these.

Social Studies: We will be learning about consumers and producers this week. A consumer is a customer, while a producer makes the goods or provides a service. I will attempt to download a slide show that I made to help teach this concept.

Math: We are continuing to learn about fact families, solve subtraction and addition word problems, and compare number two digit numbers. They must be able to identify the greater number. Many of our math workshop stations will be festive this week 🙂

Science: We are continuing to learn that sound is caused by vibrations and you can make the sound stop by stopping the vibration. We will learn how to make loud and soft sounds with xylophones and table guitars. We will do an investigation to determine which solution will dissolve a candy cane the fastest.

Thursday: Please attend the PTA meeting at 9:00

Santa Shop: Students will be able to purchase items from the Santa Shop each morning, so you may send money with your child.

December 11-15

Hello families,

The students have been so excited about the snow! Here are our plans for the week.

Reading:

We have been reading stories, and this week we will use the illustrations to describe the story elements (characters, setting, and major events). We will also look closely at words and phrases that authors use to appeal to our senses. This makes reading stories more interesting and vivid. Once again, I want to stress the importance of your children reading from their bag of books at home. Some children are making tremendous gains in reading and writing, and this is my goal for the entire class. Let’s continue to work as a team so that your child becomes strong in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Writing:

We have written two narratives so far; one from the perspective of a butterfly. We explained the butterfly life cycle by writing a story about its stages. We also chose a character from The Three Little Pigs and wrote a story from that viewpoint. We are working on adding details and publishing those now.

Math:

We are continuing to identify fact family addition and subtraction statements and solve word problems. We are also learning to identify the missing numbers on a number grid. We do this by looking for patterns in numbers.

Thursday Homework

Reminder: Today is electronic game day. They may bring in an i-pad or tablet etc. as long as they are responsible for it.
I will have plenty of chromebooks in case children forget.

The homework tonight is a measuring worksheet. They must also circle singular nouns. These are nouns that name just one thing such as: desk, toy, brush

We are in need of Kleenex, so if anyone would like to donate a box or two, that would be fantastic! Thank you for your generosity!
