Here is the pre-test for our next unit in math 🙂
Tuesday’s homework and “challenge” packet
Hello Families!
I sent another packet home today. Please know that these are optional. Many parents requested extra practice and challenge homework for their children. They are meant to practice a day at a time and your child does not need to hand these in. If you do not wish to complete them, please send them back to me.
Here are some videos that may help with those worksheets:
Tuesday’s homework will be a worksheet with some review problems of the skills we are learning about. They must also add “s” to each singular noun to make it a plural noun. Have a great night!
Monday Homework
Monday’s homework will be a worksheet on fact family triangles. They have to find the missing number. Remember, the top number is the whole and the bottom two numbers are the parts. Part+Part= Whole. I am also sending a capitalization worksheet home. Many student had trouble with this on NWEA, so I am trying to send home some practice sheets that will help them meet their spring NWEA goal. Let’s keep working together to make first grade a successful year for your child 🙂 Happy Super Bowl Sunday (I don’t even know who is playing 🙂
Week of February 5
Good morning, families!
I hope you are all having a great weekend! As you know, we celebrated our January PBIS reward on Thursday. This monthly reward is a privilege for students who do not flip their card more than four times. Our school wide behavior system promotes positive behavior and asks children to be “bucket-fillers” not “bucket- dippers.” We discuss, revisit, and practice our Miller expectations every day: Be Respectful, Be Safe, Be Responsible. I strongly urge you to talk about the importance of these expectations at home. I am so proud of my class and I love each and every one of my students, yet I am noticing some behaviors that are unacceptable and I am asking for your support.
Please remind your child to respect teachers by:
1. Listening while teachers are talking
2. Following directions
3. Responding quickly when a teacher gives a direction.
Please remind your child to respect each other by:
1. Saying positive things to one another
2. Being kind
3. Inviting others to play
4. Helping one another
I look forward to the second half of the school year, and I appreciate all of your support. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please know that I am ALWAYS available.

Reading: We will be learning how to look for information in texts using the glossary and table of contents. I will share a couple powerpoint presentations that I have created that you can view with your child at home. We will also be looking at two individuals or events in the same text to discover similarities and connections.
Writing: We are learning how to research a topic and look for information on this topic in books and article. We are recording information on a thinking map so that we can write a paragraph about the topic. You can practice this skill at home with your child with any nonfiction book or article. I will upload the thinking map that we use in class.
Math: We are learning how to find the missing number, solve fact family triangles, and solve word problems. I will upload the Unit Six pretest and the answers.
Social Studies: We will be taking a social studies test this week that will assess their knowledge on the following terms:
Needs- things we need to survive
Wants_ things we want to have, but don’t have to have
consumer- someone who buys or uses goods
producer-someone who makes the goods
good- something you can buy
service- something that someone does for you (haircut, car wash, salon)
scarcity- when there are not enough goods for the people who want them
trade- using money or items to trade for a want or need
jobs- students should be able to make a list of jobs that people do for money
Science: We are continuing to learn about light. We used flashlights (source) of light and discovered what happens when objects block the light (shadows). We read books on myon about light and shadows and I encourage you to have your child do this at home.
PBIS REWARD TOMORROW
Students may wear pajamas and bring in a stuffed toy tomorrow for our January PBIS reward.
Movie night is Friday at 5:00 . They are viewing Boss Baby 🙂

Good morning! Today’s homework will be a test review. We will have our test on Thursday. Below is a practice test. Have a great day!
Monday Homework
Monday’s homework will be a worksheet on tens and ones and they must also circle the blends in the words. The videos below are great resources for the concepts we are learning right now :).

Reading: We are taking a break from fiction books for a bit and revisiting informational text. These are books or articles that provide information and facts about a particular topic. We will be looking at ways to locate information (key details) in texts so that we can ask and answer questions about a topic.
Math: We will continue learning different strategies for solving addition and subtraction word problems. Sometimes we draw a picture, sometimes we write a number sentence, sometimes we solve for the missing number. Also, we are using base ten blocks and drawings to represent numbers. The number grid is a great tool for your child to add and subtract numbers. We are looking for patterns on the number grid that can help us be more efficient and quicker when adding or subtracting ten. There are many videos on YouTu, and be to help reinforce this concept and I strongly encourage you to explore these videos and resources with your child.
Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about needs, wants, goods, services, consumers, producers, choices, scarcity, and jobs.
Science: We are wrapping up our unit on sound and we will begin learning about light. This week, we will learn that light is a form of energy. The sun provides light and it can bend.
Have a great weekend!
