Good morning, families!
I hope you are all having a great weekend! As you know, we celebrated our January PBIS reward on Thursday. This monthly reward is a privilege for students who do not flip their card more than four times. Our school wide behavior system promotes positive behavior and asks children to be “bucket-fillers” not “bucket- dippers.” We discuss, revisit, and practice our Miller expectations every day: Be Respectful, Be Safe, Be Responsible. I strongly urge you to talk about the importance of these expectations at home. I am so proud of my class and I love each and every one of my students, yet I am noticing some behaviors that are unacceptable and I am asking for your support.
Please remind your child to respect teachers by:
1. Listening while teachers are talking
2. Following directions
3. Responding quickly when a teacher gives a direction.
Please remind your child to respect each other by:
1. Saying positive things to one another
2. Being kind
3. Inviting others to play
4. Helping one another
I look forward to the second half of the school year, and I appreciate all of your support. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please know that I am ALWAYS available.

Reading: We will be learning how to look for information in texts using the glossary and table of contents. I will share a couple powerpoint presentations that I have created that you can view with your child at home. We will also be looking at two individuals or events in the same text to discover similarities and connections.
Writing: We are learning how to research a topic and look for information on this topic in books and article. We are recording information on a thinking map so that we can write a paragraph about the topic. You can practice this skill at home with your child with any nonfiction book or article. I will upload the thinking map that we use in class.
Math: We are learning how to find the missing number, solve fact family triangles, and solve word problems. I will upload the Unit Six pretest and the answers.
Social Studies: We will be taking a social studies test this week that will assess their knowledge on the following terms:
Needs- things we need to survive
Wants_ things we want to have, but don’t have to have
consumer- someone who buys or uses goods
producer-someone who makes the goods
good- something you can buy
service- something that someone does for you (haircut, car wash, salon)
scarcity- when there are not enough goods for the people who want them
trade- using money or items to trade for a want or need
jobs- students should be able to make a list of jobs that people do for money
Science: We are continuing to learn about light. We used flashlights (source) of light and discovered what happens when objects block the light (shadows). We read books on myon about light and shadows and I encourage you to have your child do this at home.
