Hello Families! I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving and that you are having a restful and well-deserved break:-) Please remember to complete the Family Tree Project and to read with your child. I allowed them to choose additional books so that they would have new books in their bags over the break. Here is what we will be learning this week.

Reading: We are continuing to learn how to read nonfiction books. It is important for them to understand how to use the table of contents, index, glossary, bold words, captions, and photos to navigate informational books. I know that they cannot always read every single word, but using these nonfiction text features will help them understand the text.
Writing: We are almost done finding and recording three facts about our seasons. This week, we will write a topic and closing sentence and hopefully begin publishing our final drafts.
Social Studies: We will continue to learn about economics: needs, wants, goods, and services. Additionally, we will learn the term: Scarcity, which means not enough goods were produced for the consumers who want to buy them. An example is if a customer needed chocolate chips to make cookies and when she went to Kroger to buy some, there weren’t any left. There was a scarcity of chocolate chips.
Science: We are continuing to study weather conditions, seasons, and tools that meteorologists use to observe the weather. One tool that we will learn how to read is a thermometer. If you have thermometers at home, this would be good practice.
Math: We will have our Unit 3 Math test on Tuesday (most likely). Please make sure that your child knows how to tell time to the hour and half hour. I will send plastic clocks home on Monday for those who want extra practice.
Have a great weekend!
