Hello everyone! As we are reaching the end of the year I want to let you all know I will not be assigning any new assignments. The last assignment for this year is the Dog House design. You must watch the video in order to know what to do and how to do it. All assignments are due no later than June 8th no exceptions. Teachers must have grades done by then so I unfortunately cannot accept any assignments after June 8th. If you have any missing assignments from this card marking you can still turn them in but after June 8th I will not be accepting anymore work from students. I apologize for not being on time with grades but I will be updating them this week and next so be patient and give me some time for that. With that being said I truly miss every one of you and this year, regardless of how chaotic it was, was a joy to spend with all of you. I look forward to seeing all of you grow into successful adults and all are welcome to come visit next year. I wish everyone a safe, healthy, and happy summer. Reach out to me anytime if you need anything. I am and always will still be your teacher. I am so proud of all of you and how you all adapted to this new online learning. It was challenging for all of us but WE DID IT!
Hello! For this week there is only one project for you to work on. You will be working on your final design for the doghouse. The assignments is worth 20 points total. You can also earn 5 extra credit points by incorporating evaporative cooling into your design. Here is how you can organize your time this week: Tuesday: Exterior design Wednesday: Interior design Friday: Written summary about design
Looking forward to a new week! These are the assignments to work through this week.
Monday: AOW Text Dependent Questions Tuesday: Doghouse Design Selection Wednesday: AOW Text Dependent Questions Thursday: Make sure summary for AOW is following the rubric! Summaries should be at least 3 sentences long in your own words not copied from the article. Friday: Friday Journal Reflection
Monnday and Wednesday. If you notice I’ve made an error in the grade book after Wednesday please let me know!
Hello! I hope you all enjoyed a restful weekend! This weeks work will be similar to last weeks work. There are only two days of work for Article of the Week, a lesson about conductors and insulators, and Friday Journal.
Monday: AOW Prediction/Summary Tuesday: Conductors and Insulators Webquest Wednesday: AOW Text Dependent Questions Thursday: Video Conference on Big Blue Button Friday: Friday Journal
Hello everyone! I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Here is an overview of what you will be doing for science this week.
Monday: Prediction/Summary of AOW Tuesday: ‘No Such Thing as Cold’ Activity Wednesday: AOW Questions Friday: Friday Journal
Instead of 2 science lessons a week we are going to bring it down to only 1. The reason for that is a lot of you are rushing through assignments and not taking your time, giving honest and well thought out answers. The material we are giving you is what we did in class and they are the same routines you all should be familiar with. I am hoping this week we can work harder, putting in better effort. I am here to help along the way. I hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. We will get through this together!
Hello my dear students! Who is ready for another week of fun in science class?! I know I am! Here is what you can expect for the week ahead!
Monday: Article of the Week (AOW) Tuesday: (AOW) & Transfer of Energy Multiple Choice Activity Wednesday: (AOW) & Evaporation Review Video and Fill in the Blank Activity Thursday: Revisit Lesson 5 Part 4 and fix your models (this is required)! This is where you use the evaporation review activity from Wednesday and all of the other resources such as google hangouts to help you. Our work is never perfect and could always use some revising. We make models in class all the time and go back and make necessary changes after we learn more information. This is where you are going to go back and make changes to your models such as the size of your arrows to show temperature change, placement of your molecules, etc. Make sure your model accurately shows the flow of thermal energy leaving the can and going to the air. Models must be correct before turning them in for a final grade. Friday: Friday Journal
Finally, Happy Ramadan to all those celebrating! May this month bring joy and good health to you all!
As you can see I just updated the grade book based off this week’s assignments. There are a few important things I want to make sure you are all aware of for this new online learning routine.
1.) I understand this is may be a new rough time for us, therefore I am not grading as strictly as I used to, because I want to make sure you are all adjusted first. That means for this week I gave everyone full credit for attempting to complete the assignments. The only way you got points off is if you simply did not complete it or left something blank.
2.) Just because you recieved 100% on an assignment does NOT mean you got all of the answers correct. This is the time for you to take initiative of your learning and make sure you are holding yourself accountable. I am not there in person so it is your responsibility to read over my comments I made in red. If you got an answer wrong I typed up the correct information. You need to read all my comments and make sure you understand the correct answer and why you got it wrong. If you need help I will be happy to help just send me an email with your questions!
3.) Google hangouts are a great place to talk about the correct information and answers to the lesson questions. Make sure you understand the correct answer incase we have a quiz or test later. More information on quizes/tests to come later.
4.) Late work: Again, because of the new online learning and rough time people may be having, I am willing to accept late work. If you turn something in late you will still receive full credit it as long as you completed the full assignment. Only way to lose points is if you are simply not doing the assignments on Google Classroom.
I plan on eventually grading based off of correct and incorrect answers so make sure you are not rushing through the work. Read the assigned articles because they do a good job at explaining why things are they way they are in science. Make sure you ask questions, watch the videos, and pay attention to the notes and google hangout summaries we provide because they will have explanations and answers to help you. Grading will start off easy but then eventually I will be taking points away if the answers are not correct. Again I am happy to help. I am not there in person but I still am your teacher. I will gladly help you if you are struggling just email me and we can set something up. Stay healthy and safe! You got this! You are all so smart and capable just keep trying.
First I want to make sure everyone is healthy and doing well during this time. I strongly recommend that students and families subscribe and check the school blog daily as well as teachers’ blogs. This is our main form of communication as well as email. If anyone is in need of a chromebook or resources, check the school blog because they post information on how and when to obtain a chromebook as well as other things like lunches. It is important to stay up to date on what type of learning is required from each teacher online. For 7th grade science, Mrs. Vander Laan and myself agreed to continue with our current unit on Thermal Energy on Google Classroom. So far about 73% of my students are enrolled in Google Classroom. It is important that everyone is enrolled because learning is now required and our new online learning plan was approved by the district and is ready to go! Therefore I will start updating the grade book and as you can see I already starting grading lesson 5 part 1. If you are not completing the assignments you will see it impact your grade. Please make sure you are enrolled in Google Classroom if you have not already done so. Every week we will have the same schedule as follows below. If our schedule changes you will be notified via iblog, email, google classroom, etc.:
Monday- Article of the Week (AOW) for bellwork. Focus on key vocabulary and find the definitions within the text using context clues and reading strategies we have practice in class. Put the definitions in your own words. Or prediction of the text, identify text features, etc.
Tuesday- AOW (focus on identifying text structure) & new science content (lab, video, worksheet, model, etc.)
Wednesday- AOW (focus on identifying author’s purpose) & new science content (lab, video, worksheet, model, etc.)
Thursday- AOW (Connections: Text to Text, Text to World, Text to Self) & Google Hangout to chat with Ms. Khzouz about the lab, answer any questions you may have about this week’s assignments, and to check on your well being making sure everyone is safe/healthy. Google hangout is technically not required but recommended if you want to chat with myself and other classmates about this week’s assignments as well as answer any questions.
Friday- AOW (Text Summary using main ideas and key details) & Journal Reflection about this week’s assignments.
Here are the codes to get into google classroom for science. Each code is for each hour. Make sure you are using the correct code for your correct hour!
