Special Area Assignments

6/1-6/5

Each day, students should focus on one special area. Our special area classes are a great opportunity for students to get a break from core subjects, supplement core subjects, and enrich their lives. We will collect and grade work on a weekly basis.

PE, MUSIC, ART and YOGA

Hello boys and girls,

This week’s lesson will focus on, you guessed it, yoga. Ms. Bruce, Mrs. Lograsso and I (Mrs. Masiarczyk) have created the lesson together. Before we start, let’s look at some of the benefits of practicing yoga.

Benefits of yoga:

  • increased flexibility and balance
  • increased muscle strength and tone
  • can improve breathing
  • can improve focus
  • helps reduce stress and helps you to relax

Before you press play and watch the video, find a calm and quiet place where you can practice yoga. If you have a yoga mat, use it, otherwise a rug with the nonslip rubber on the back will work. You do not want something that is slippery. Next, dim the lights, try to block out all other distractions and focus on the moves. READY? Now, watch the video. What to do for Mrs. Masiarczyk:

Once you have completed the yoga activity please go to my blog and fill out the fitness log.The fitness log is on my blog, top right corner. Answer the questions and submit. There are only 5 questions. It is very easy to complete. Mrs. Masiarczyk’s PE Blog

Each day that you make an effort to be physically active for at least 20 minutes, please fill out the fitness log.

Lately, a few students have emailed me asking if they have to send me a video. The answer to that is NO. I enjoy getting the videos and seeing all that you are doing, but if you cannot or are uncomfortable sending a video, that is not required. You do have to fill out the fitness log.

What to do for Mrs. Lograsso:

This week you will be creating your own yoga pose and movement! The directions can be found in a video here. When you are done, please fill out the Google Form HERE. If you don’t fill it out, I won’t know you completed it and cannot give you credit.

What to do for Ms. Bruce:

This week we are making yoga gesture drawings. This video will explain how to do this:

You can draw a family member doing yoga, you could draw Mrs. Lograsso doing yoga from her video, or look up a picture of someone doing yoga. The goal is just to show the gesture, or movement- you don’t need to add extra details!

Join all three of us, Mrs. Lograsso, Mrs. Masiarczyk, and Mrs. Bruce for an optional Big Blue Button Hangout on Tuesday! We will have a chance to chat, play a short game, and answer any questions you may have! This will be our last Big Blue Button for the year so we hope to see you there! Kindergarten, first, and second grades will be at 2:00. Third, fourth, and fifth grades will meet at 2:45. This sentence is a link to a video that shows how to log in to iLearn. The enrollment code for this iLearn course is bryzs9 .
