Sign up Genius
Don’t forget to sign your child up for an in person Reading Assessment on my Sign up Genius (on the blog). It is this week only. It’s important for us to find out your child’s reading level and to give them the diagnostic on iready so they can get started with an individualized reading program. When you get here, enter through the doors by the teachers parking lot and sign your child in. You will then have to leave the building and come back to pick them up at the end of their time slot. We will be following Covid guidelines which means I will have a mask on. I have hand sanitizer in my room available for their use. Surfaces will be wiped down in between visits. If you want your child to wear a mask while they are reading and on the computer, please let them know to keep it on. If they ask me if they can take it off I will ask them to tell me what you said to them in regard to masks. OR send them with a note for me as to what you want. There will be no more than 3 students in the room at a time, and most days, only two. I will keep them far apart. If you are not comfortable having your child come in at this time, please email me and we can try to do it over zoom. Don’t forget to send them with their chrombook. kearneb@dearbornschools.org

There are about 12 students who have not been on at all yet or just on for a total of 2-10 minutes. iready and Care of Chromebooks
Hello,
iready will not be open until the 14th, BUT we do not want them to go on there until we have administered the first lesson, which is a test. So do not have them go on iready. We will be scheduling students soon to come in and have a reading DRA assessment and put them on iready for that test. The first time they log on, the test will pop up and has to be taken, so don’t have them go on there until they have met with me or Ms. M. CHROMBOOKS….today during lunch I noticed several students taking their computers around the house with them, some were outside, one was running down the street with their computer and another was standing on a table outside, with a computer nearby. If you have a chromebook from the school district please let your child know they are to be kept on a flat surface and not carried around like that. The district cannot replace broken or damaged ones and that will end up leaving us short on computers once they get back into the classroom. Thank you for your support in this matter.
Students should be on Epic and Zearn Monday-Friday
Hello, I was checking to see student progress with their afternoon(2:00-3:50) responsibilities and noticed only two students are doing their Epic assignment and only half the class has been doing their Zearn assignments. If iready is up and running they also need to do that. I know it is a lot of computer time but it does teach them, and with us not being able to help them like we can when they are here with us, these sites are extra important for them. Last year in the classroom 1st grade students used Zearn and iready 20 minutes daily, and I believe they spent time on them in kindergarten so they should know how to access it. If they are having trouble and need help, please contact me and I and/or Ms. M. will walk them through getting on the site. The information for that is also on my blog.
