Thank you and conferences

Thank you moms and dads who were here to help on Halloween, it really is appreciated.

Conferences begin next Thursday, the 14th. They then pick back up the week after that on the 20th and 21st of the month.  I will be sending reminders home a few days before your date with the time you had signed up for. Some parents didn’t sign up at Open House so I will be sending home a scheduled time, if it doesn’t work just let me know and we can adjust.

Opps! AND Thank you!

Sorry: I’m sorry, I didn’t pass out their spelling homework. I’ll put it on their desks so they can pack it up first thing in the morning.  If you would like them to write the words tonight instead of tomorrow they can be found on my blog under spelling list, otherwise they can do it tomorrow for homework.  Speaking of spelling, almost 100% improvement from every student on Friday’s test compared to the last test they took.  I am so happy for them.

I’d like to say a big Thank You to all the parents who chaperoned on our field trip last week.  The students had a great time and so did we.  Again,  “Thank You” for being a part of their school memories.

Halloween Party this Thursday: A note went home with all the details but here is a recap. Bring costume in a bag and they will change into them at 2:30 and the parade around the school will begin at 2:45.  We were told no masks or make-up. There is a sign up sheet by our classroom door for donations, if you can’t come in to sign up feel free to email me at kearneb@dearbornschools.org and I can fill your name in.  2 people are needed to bring in cheese, fruit, vegetables, crackers, dip for veggies, and juice boxes (10 per volunteer). One person for cupcakes or cookies, 1 person for plates, and 1 person for napkins.  We have a total of 20 students.  You may send in candy that has wrappers on it and have your child pass them out.  You are also welcome to come join us at 2:30 in room 29.  Hope to see you then:)

Math:We have just started counting money and the students do really well counting just pennies or just nickles but today we started counting combinations of nickles and pennies.  This is difficult for some students. We start with the highest value coin (nickle) and count from there. Many have a hard time transitioning from counting by fives to counting by ones once they go to the pennies. They want to keep counting by fives.  We worked hard today trying to master that skill.  However, it is a skill that will take a lot of practice for some so if your child is having a hard time, keep practicing it over the next few days.  We will be taking a test next Monday and they will have to know how to count a nickle and penny combination. Keep the combinations under 15 cents.

Forms and Field Trip

Dear Parents,

If you have received a Weapons Form or a Concussion Form you must fill it out because I have not received one back from you or it has been lost in transit.  The concussion form is simply explaining what a concussion is and what the symptoms are and letting you know you will be notified if your child shows signs or symptoms of one after a head injury. If it is not signed and returned your child cannot participate in recess, gym, field trips and any other physical activities that may take the child outside or in the gym to perform.

Field Trip is Wednesday, please dress your child according to the weather as we will be outdoors.  Make sure your student is on time for school that day.  These parents have volunteered:

  • Terra Hassan
  • Lynette Paddock
  • Almirian Carrion
  • Jennifer Deckert
  • Rita Dagher (riding the bus)

Chaperons please arrive to our classroom at 9:00 so that I can give you your list of students  and any other information that may be needed about the trip. Thank you in advance for your help.  If I have missed anyone who has volunteered please let me know.

Enjoy your Evening,

Mrs. Kearney

10-8-13

Math homework was sent home again. We did it in math today so they should know how to do it, at least with the 10 pennies. They may need your help with the 15. Please turn in the social studies homework (family tree) as it was due today.  I will be having the students share them and the picture they brought in with the rest of the class (if you don’t have a picture, they can draw one). I called the book orders in today so they should be here by the beginning of next week.

Field Trip Information

Happy Friday,

Two important things were sent home today.  The first is a field trip form and the other is a social studies homework assignment.  The field trip form is Due next Friday October 11th and the homework is due Tuesday the 8th. Please take the time to go over these two items.  If you have any questions you can email me at kearneb@dearbornschools.org

Have a Nice Weekend,

Mrs. Kearney

Updates

Social Studies H.W. will be sent home tomorrow.  It is an assignment you will have to do with your child. It is due Wednesday the 2nd.  We went over the math review that was sent home over the weekend and the test will be given tomorrow. They seem ready!

The five sight words that do not follow the spelling pattern (though there is one this week that does…”not”) are words they should be able to read just by looking at them.  Please practice reading them with your child as well as practicing the spelling.  Have a great night!

Math Test

Good Evening,

Students will be taking a math test on Tuesday October 1, 2013. You will find a test review in their folder tomorrow 9-27-13. Have them work on it alone, then check it together and at that time clear up any misunderstandings they have. Oh, and don’t forget Spelling test tomorrow 🙂 If you have noticed your child is getting some of the last five “surprise” words wrong, give them “surprise” words at home containing the spelling pattern we are working on (id, and in).  We are looking to see if they can apply knowledge and mastery of the spelling pattern (not just memorization of given words) to unknown words.

Thank You

Parents,

Thank you for attending Open House last Thursday.  I really enjoyed meeting you and the students were so happy to show you around.

REMINDERS-Concussion forms and Weapons forms are to be signed and returned.  Make sure you sign their reading/behavior log daily and write the number of minutes they read and the title of the book that was read.  Spelling homework starts today.  That is to be sent back daily so that I can check that it has been done. Overall they have been doing a great job on their tests. Keep up the good work!

FYI-They check out library books on Tuesdays so if they bring it home make sure it is sent back Tuesday morning.  Book Bags will start coming home late next week.

Have a Great Day,

Mrs. Kearney
