I noticed I said their social studies “Interview” assignment was due this coming Friday. Well as you know, we don’t have school on that day so if they have it completed by Thursday send it in, otherwise send it in on Tuesday October 7th. Sorry about that.
Sign and return
Math tests were sent home today, please look it over, sign and return. The other quizzes and the spelling test can be kept at home. Thanks!
Social Studies Homework
A social studies homework assignment will be going home tomorrow. There is a note attached which explains what they will need to do. If a grandparent is not available for them, any family member who is two generations away from them will do. The assignment is due Next Friday October 3, 2014. They will be presenting their Family Interview project in front of their classmates (pictures are welcome).
Bullying Surveys are due tomorrow and Scholastic Book Order Forms are due Monday September 30, 2014. Also, Book Bingo is tomorrow the 26th at 6:15 pm in the cafeteria.
Have a Nice Night!
First Math Test
Tomorrow your child will be coming home with a math test review. Have them do as much of it as they can on their own. Look it over with them and help them with any misunderstanding. The review is due on Thursday, we will review it in class together that day and the test will be given on Friday. Please note number 18 may be difficult for them. We will be spending the next two days focusing on that one. If there was one or two in particular they really struggled with, put a star by it and I will try to spend a little extra time reviewing it with them.
Thank You
Parents,
Just wanted to say thank you for coming to Open House on Thursday. It was so nice meeting you and the students had a great time showing you around. I will be sending home a scholastic book order form today. It will be due next Monday 9-29-14. Also, book bags will start coming home as well. Once those arrive students will be expected to read for 15-20 minutes a night. Be sure to have them fill in the title of the book they read for that day on the behavior/reading log and have it initialed or signed by you. Some of you have already started the routine so this will be nothing new to your child 🙂 It is important for them to read on a daily basis as it increases their fluency and comprehension as well as accuracy and exposes them to new vocabulary words. Have a great week!
Spelling Tests
I just wanted to say that the students did a great job on their spelling test, even with the surprise words! I can tell they have been studying their words. One student informed me he gets to go out for dinner as a reward for getting 100%. He’s quite excited. Thank you parents for all your hard work. They brought home a short science homework sheet, they should have no problem doing it as we did the same thing in class today with three objects. Don’t forget….Open House is on Thursday from 5:00-6:30pm. Hope to see you there:)
Newsletter
Dear Parents,
We’ve had a great week together practicing routines and procedures. We’ve also done some reading, graphing, and a lot of work geared toward learning rules and expectations. Ask them about the book David Goes to School, by David Shannon, as it was the springboard to many “rules” based activities. This upcoming week kicks off our spelling homework! Every Monday new spelling words will be sent home for your child to work on. You will receive spelling homework Monday through Thursday. If some of you prefer to receive Monday’s spelling homework on Friday so that you can have extra time over the weekend to study them, let me know by sending me little note. You will also start seeing some math homework being sent home and book bags will be sent home in the near future. A weekly behavior chart/reading log will go home on Monday. In the future, new ones will be sent home every Friday. Students will mark their behavior color each day and then keep track of the expected 15-20 minutes of reading. This form needs to be signed or initialed by you or another adult who can verify their reading. It also lets me know that you have seen what kind of day they have had in terms of following rules and procedures. Also, it can be used as a quick way to communicate any questions, concerns, or tidbits of information we need to share with each other. I check them every morning so I will see your note. The reading homework portion must be filled out when they start bringing home their “book bags”.
SIDENOTE: I reversed two letters in my e-mail address in the Welcome Letter, here is the correct address: kearneb@dearbornschools.org
I’d like to say a big thank you for all the school supplies sent in, they should get us through a few months of school or longer! Also, great job on sending in the snacks listed on the snack list and I want to say thank-you soooo much for being understanding and supportive in regards to my perfume and scented products allergy, it makes a big difference in how I feel throughout the day. I REALLY appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Bridgette Kearney
