A few notes…sorry if you get this twice

Sorry if you get this twice, I posted yesterday evening and a mom said she didn’t get anything and neither did I so maybe others have not as well.

The first week of conferences start this Thursday.  Those of you that are scheduled for this day will receive a reminder of the time you signed up for on Monday.  Next week’s conference reminders will be sent home later in the week. If you did not sign up at Open House or privately with me, please let me know so we can set something up. If you are unable to make the date and/or time you signed up for please indicate on reminder form and return so I can contact you to reschedule.

Picture retakes are this Friday.

Pajama Day on Friday if you bring in a jar of peanut Butter…Please read the blue sheet in your child’s folder for details.

Need your help…..We have just read 4 mini books about each of the seasons. In it they include 2 American Holidays that are celebrated during that season.  I’d like to add a Holiday that you and your child celebrate in your culture during the seasons of Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall. So if you would like to share just send in the name of the Holiday, the season it occurs in and make sure your child would know how to make a simple illustration/symbol to represent it so they can model it for the class and allow us to add it to our books.  Ex: In the ______________ Culture ____________ is celebrated in the (name of season). Send it in with your child by Tuesday.  *You may draw it instead of them if you would like, along with  a brief description of what it represents. Thanks!

We will celebrate our next PBIS party onMonday, November 3rd.  Students must have earned 14 or more green days in the month of October to attend.  If your child is attending, he/she may bring a board game from home to play.  Please do not send electronics.  We will allow electronics at a future PBIS party.  Keep up the GREAT job boys and girls!

A Few Notes

Dear Parents,

Blogging is something relatively new to me.  I haven’t figured out how to use it to it’s fullest potential yet and I seem to learn a little more each time I use it.  With that said, I noticed a “comments” category and a number 4 by it so I clicked on it. I saw communication from 4 of you that I never responded to because I was unaware. I want to apologize and I don’t think it goes to my email because I do check that daily, Monday-Friday.  If it is something that needs a timely response please email me at kearneb@dearbornschools.org  as that is the quickest way to reach me.

Math tests will be sent home on Monday, please sign and return on Wednesday.

Reminder-No school on Tuesday and Friday is a half day.

The students had fun on Friday and enjoyed eating all the food that was sent in. Thank you   to everyone for participating in that day. They looked amazing in their costumes. I took pictures and will send them home with your child this week.

Halloween

Tomorrow is our Halloween Celebration. Just a reminder to send in anything you signed up for.  Students should wear their costumes to school. No masks. The school is not having a Halloween Parade this year.  If you are sending in treats for your child to pass out, remember to keep them NUT FREE.

Spelling Test tomorrow.

Conferences start November 13.  Reminders will be given closer to the date.

Math Test

Our unit 2 math test will be given Tuesday.  Your child went home with a study guide yesterday. Have them work on it.  If you noticed they had trouble with a particular problem just jot me a note on there or star it and I’ll make sure we spend extra time reviewing that one on Monday.

Halloween Party is on Friday-we have 22 students.  Thank you for signing up to send food items in.  We are all set. Just a reminder if you are sending in candy to pass out, make sure they are nut free.

Thanks for all do and have a great weekend!

Weekend homework and more…

Just wanted to share with you a few things that are going on in our room…

Students have a weekend social studies assignment.  They should have no problem with it. We are starting to wrap up our “Families” Unit and have been learning about “rules” and “responsibilities” at school and at home.  They had no problem giving examples of rules  and responsibilities at home.  You have been doing a great job at teaching them the difference between the two. We will be ending the unit with identifying how parents meet their basic needs and wants.

In science we just finished learning about the sun and will continue this weather unit for quite awhile focusing on the seasons, weather and safety precautions to take during particular weather conditions. We have also been keeping a weather journal and temperature graph which we will continue to do over the next few months so that later we can compare weather conditions and temperatures through the seasons.

Spelling-even though no paper homework comes home on Thursday, please use this day to have them practice their words or take a practice test.

I received book bags last Thursday so those are going home now. Please have student’s practice those books. New books are sent home every 2 to 4 days depending on the group/individual, length of books and/or strategy they are working on. Don’t forget to have them or you write out title off the book(s) they have read and how many minutes spent reading, on their behavior/reading log.  Book bags are to be sent to school and taken home every day.

Halloween Party information will be posted on Monday. We do have a student with Peanut/Nut Allergies so please don’t send in any treats made with those.

Have a Great Weekend!!!

PBIS Parties

You may have heard your child talk about a PBIS Party they went to on Wednesday. I’d like to give you a little information about them.  The party is a reward that they earn monthly by staying on green a certain amount of days.  As the months go forward the expectation of “Green Days” continues to increase. At the party this month students earned a lanyard at the party that read “Matrix Master”.  It reminds them that they were following the Matrix Behavior Expectations. The lanyard holds tokens they earn each month that they get to attend a party.  The lanyard is a new addition this year to reward positive choices.  The parties are 30 minutes long and often consist of crafts, Bingo, or even a dance party!  I have the lanyards in the classroom so that they don’t get lost as we are not allowed to replace them.  The party is usually done the day after the last day of the month.  Times vary. They all made it to the party this month!!!! Feel free to encourage them at home and remind them about the PBIS Parties 😉
