Holiday Shopping is next Thursday December 11th
Hi,
Sorry! I must have been excited to start shopping, the date for our class to attend the Kids Holiday Shop is actually next Thursday, not this Thursday. So it’s December 11, 2014.
Reminder, Popcorn will be sold this Friday December 5… I double checked 😉
Math Tests and More
A few quick notes…
Math tests were sent home today, please sign and return
Our next unit in math will focus on measurement and some addition and counting. Each student will need an empty paper towel roll by mid next week so please send one in when you get a chance. If you have extras you can send them this way too!
Don’t forget, this Thursday is the Holiday Shop for our class!
Have a Great Night!
We did a play!!!!
The students presented a play to the fourth graders today. We did 4 short plays and they were awesome, especially because they only practiced it yesterday and a little bit today. Ask them what their play was about and what character they were.
A letter and an envelope was sent home today explaining the holiday shop. Our class will be shopping on Thursday December 11th.
We are in need of glue sticks, any donations would be appreciated.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!
Conferences
I just wanted to say “thanks” for coming to conferences. I enjoyed spending time with you and sharing their goals with you.
I told the students I would let you know what a great job they did on publishing their personal narratives. The hardest thing to do when writing one is to stay organized, stay on one topic and provide details. They all did that and shared them with their classmates in the “authors chair”.
There is a math test on Tuesday and a study guide is in their folder to be returned on Monday. You may find the number line questions to be difficult for them. Go slowly over those with them.
No spelling test next week due to the break.
Book Order Forms due tomorrow.
Conference Reminders
Conference reminders went home today for next week. Please be sure to confirm at the the bottom of the reminder and cut and return.
Book Order Forms went home today. They are due next Friday 11-21-14.
Have a GREAT Weekend!
NWEA Informational Meeting dates and times
Dr. Groover will be holding the annual Title I Parent Meeting each night of conferences and will go into more detail about interpreting the NWEA reports, along with how to help your student’s success in school. The sessions will be held as follows:
Thursday, Nov. 13 3:45-4:15
Wednesday, Nov. 19 4:30-5:00
Thursday, Nov. 20 5:30-6:00
NWEA Assessment Scores
Parents will get their student’s scores from the recent NWEA MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) at Parent/Teacher conference. The testing results are reported in RITs (Rauch Unit) on the report and in grade equivalent scores on the report card. A RIT score is an estimation of a student’s instructional level and also measures student progress or growth in school. We expect RIT scores to increase over time. Parents and guardians should become comfortable with the understanding that individuals will grow at different rates. Our goal is for teachers to use the data to differentiate and adjust instruction so that all students grow at levels appropriate for each individual. If you have questions, please contact your student’s classroom teacher or Dr. Groover.

Third try to get this to you
A few notes…sorry if you get this twice
Sorry if you get this twice, I posted yesterday evening and a mom said she didn’t get anything and neither did I so maybe others have not as well.
The first week of conferences start this Thursday. Those of you that are scheduled for this day will receive a reminder of the time you signed up for on Monday. Next week’s conference reminders will be sent home later in the week. If you did not sign up at Open House or privately with me, please let me know so we can set something up. If you are unable to make the date and/or time you signed up for please indicate on reminder form and return so I can contact you to reschedule.
Picture retakes are this Friday.
Pajama Day on Friday if you bring in a jar of peanut Butter…Please read the blue sheet in your child’s folder for details.
Need your help…..We have just read 4 mini books about each of the seasons. In it they include 2 American Holidays that are celebrated during that season. I’d like to add a Holiday that you and your child celebrate in your culture during the seasons of Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall. So if you would like to share just send in the name of the Holiday, the season it occurs in and make sure your child would know how to make a simple illustration/symbol to represent it so they can model it for the class and allow us to add it to our books. Ex: In the ______________ Culture ____________ is celebrated in the (name of season). Send it in with your child by Tuesday. *You may draw it instead of them if you would like, along with a brief description of what it represents. Thanks!
