Report Cards were sent home today

Report cards were sent home today. They also have a little social studies homework that they will need your help with. Return it on Monday.  They took their Math NWEA test yesterday and it went well.  Our next one will be for reading and it takes place this upcoming Thursday morning the 5th of February.

Our PBIS celebration will be on Friday February 6th.

I will be sending home a list of names in case you need them for Valentine’s Day Cards.

Congrats to the Litton Family….

Congrats to the Litton family as they added a new member to their family yesterday! A beautiful baby boy!

Today in social studies we learned about aerial perspective and we went to Google Earth to check out the school and a few residences of the student’s who knew their address. I told the students to ask you if you could help them on Google Earth to locate an aerial perspective of their home. So if they ask, that is why.

Math Test/Study Guide

Students have a math test study guide for homework tonight.  Please send in completed study guide because we will go over it tomorrow.  For numbers 6-8 make sure they draw their own picture first and use it to help them determine if the statements match their picture.  The test is on Thursday the 22nd.

Several forms went home today as well, some need to be returned.

Thanks Chaperons!

A big thank you to everyone who helped keep an eye on all our students! They had a great time and you all helped create a wonderful memory for them. I liked how engaged the kids were and all of the questions they were asking.  It was great timing in conjunction with  Martin Luther King Day approaching us because the students were able to sit on the bus that Rosa Parks sat on.  They were able to make a text to world connection as we read about MLK and how he supported her. Also, we have a student in our room who is a great, great granddaughter of Rosa Parks and it was really touching to see her sit in Rosa Parks seat.

No spelling test due to the short week next week.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Kearney

Field Trip Info…

Brrrrr… it’s cold and snowy out there, thank goodness our first field trip will be indoors!  We will be going to The Henry Ford Museum Dearborn Next Friday.  You will be receiving the forms on Monday ( I didn’t pass them out today because 8 kids were absent). Please return on Tuesday. We can take 8 chaperons on the bus. If I get more than 8 I will just draw names.

I did not give the spelling test today because of the number of absences and will be giving it to them on Monday.

We did an experiment today!  Ask your child about it. We have a few more weather related experiments to do before the end of this quarter, it’s so exciting! Our next unit in math is primarily based on comparing numbers using the symbols <,>, and =.  Also solving story problems using various strategies.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Kearney

Happy Holidays!

Dear Parents,

I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to all of you for either helping with the Holiday Party, donating food/supplies, coming to the concert on Wednesday (they looked so cute all dressed up!), and for all the thoughtful gifts that were sent my way. I appreciate everything you do for your child and for our classroom. Have a wonderful 2 weeks spending time with family and friends.

Peace, Love, and Joy,

Mrs. Kearney

WEEKEND HOMEWORK

Hi,

I’m sure you noticed the big piece of paper your child came home with. Over the weekend we would like for you to trace them on that paper and cut them out.  Please do not color it. They will be using this to practice measuring.  A detailed note went home today about it.

Winter Concert is next Wednesday the 17th. (they did a rehearsal today in the gym and sounded awesome!!!) It begins at 7pm in the gym. Please arrive by 6:45 and send your child to our room. I’ll be in the room at 6:30.  Dress nicely!

We still need some empty paper towel rolls, please send them in by Tuesday, as we will begin our scrolls then.
