Social Studies Homework Assignment
A social studies homework assignment was sent home today. Students have to interview a relative two generations away from them (grandparent, great aunts and uncles etc..) If none are available an elderly neighbor is good as well. There is a sheet attached to the interview form with details. It is due next Thursday, October 15th.
spelling booklet and math test
Your child has a spelling booklet in their folder. They will be taking all their tests in this booklet. I send it home to be signed and then returned the next day. So take a look at it, sign and return. Also when I told students they had two days to work on their practice math test many said “oh I can finish it in one. So we decided to bring them back tomorrow. I do want to review it with them. I realize it may take some of them awhile to finish, some will need your help reading it, If they are getting frustrated after 10-15 minutes just return it with what they finished, we will review it tomorrow and they can take it home and study tomorrow night for Friday’s test. Also don’t forget to sign their reading log, I’ve told students it’s their responsibility to write down the title of the book they read and to give it to you to sign.
Bring in an artifact!
Today 1st graders learned that an artifact is an object that can help them learn about the past. We read the story Aunt Claire’s Yellow Beehive Hair. In this story, a young girl wanted to get to know the family who came before her, who helped make her own family. So on a rainy day she and her grandma collect artifacts from around the house and grandma tells her the stories that go along with the artifacts to help her learn about her relatives. They found pictures, a necklace, old letters, a war medal, dried flowers and a purple ribbon. As an optional homework assignment students were told to bring in an artifact from that past and share the artifact and the story behind it with their classmates. They were told to make sure they get permission from you to bring it to school. So I hope to see a few artifacts come in and learn something about their past!
Reminders- field trip forms due tomorrow and it’s a late start Wednesday…breakfast will not be served school starts at 9:35 am.
Picture Day forms were sent home today. Please send them in on Picture Day, not before.
