Recycled Materials

Good Morning,

I’d like the students to design Leprechaun Traps next Friday so we can try to catch one over the weekend. Can you send in a shoe box or two or three (for students who may not have one) if you have them. Also, recycled plastics like small containers (yogurt, sour cream etc…) paper towel/toilet paper rolls, and other items you think might work for the trap. They will be putting them on their desk at the end of the day, so nothing too large.  Hopefully the Leprechauns will cause some ruckus over the weekend 😉  Due Thursday the 13th.

Thank You!!!

Valentine’s Day and 100th Day

Hello,

Did Room 29 enjoy their Snow Day?!?!  I hope they had a chance to play outside. They’ve been having a lot of indoor recess lately so they probably enjoyed it if they did. Valentine’s Day is next Wednesday.  If you would like to send in cards/treats there are 18 students. Our 100th day celebration will be on Friday of next week as well. If you would like you can make a poster of 100 things. You can turn it into a design or put items into groups or 10, or fill in the number 100 with items of your choice on the board. Or you can design a t-shirt with 100 of something, fingerprints, letters, ribbons, or whatever you can think of. This is not a homework assignment just a project you can do with your child if you like. I haven’t talked to them about it yet but will on Monday and I will let them know it’s optional. We will be celebrating the 100th as an extension of our math block.

Notes…

Happy Superbowl Sunday,

Last week was our first normal week in quite some time. No NWEA testing or end of the quarter assessments. With that being said, I want to let you know that this week I will be administering 2 parts of the WIDA (English Second Language Test) to all first grade students that have been registered as speaking/hearing two languages at home. I will be testing them on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00-12:00 in our classroom. The students in our room who will not be tested will be split up and some will go to Mrs. Massy’s classroom or Mrs. Slater’s classroom on those dates and the above mentioned times. I wanted to inform you so that when your child tells you about it, you know why.

We are done with unit 5 in math and students will bring home a study guide for homework tomorrow. On Tuesday I will review it with them and they will take the test on Wednesday. We are wrapping up our economics unit as well and should test Monday or Tuesday of next week. This week we will be “producing” a “good” (animal sculpture out of clay) which they designed using the google classroom app on their chrome books. They will also be writing an advertisement for their product on google classroom as well and then selling it to classmates so that they can be not only a producer but a “consumer” as well. We covered “scarcity” by illustrating the concept and then typing up/printing an explanation of the picture.

After the Economics Test we will begin our Science Unit-Earth/Space Systems

We will also begin publishing our informational writing this week. They have read and taken notes on jellyfish, seahorses, and octopuses and will have to choose which one they want to publish.

Lots of testing this week:(

Hello,

Just want to let you know we will be taking the NWEA math test this week on Tuesday and Thursday and a few will be finishing their reading one. Most students did well on the reading one. A few did not. I will be setting up a plan (once I analyze their data) with those  who did not so that they understand they are going to have to work extra hard these next few months to reach their goal. The same will be done for math. During Daily 5 I will also be assessing students individually and whole group throughout the week so I will not be meeting with reading groups this week.

Enjoy Your Sunday!
