National Walk to School Day-tomorrow October 10th. Or ride your bike…

October 10th is national Walk to School Day, and Snow School is planning to participate.  We are encouraging all families to consider walking or biking students to school that day.  A healthy lifestyle, including sufficient exercise, improves student achievement. Does your child get the suggested 60 minutes or more each day of physical activity?  More families walking would also reduce traffic congestion around the school.  Snow PTA will provide a small gift to all the students who participate on October 10th.

Read at Home and Field Trip

This is an Email from Mrs. Bush to our families.

Dear Snow Families,

Great news! Snow School is continuing our Read at Home Plan.  With our new Book Room, every Snow student will go home with “Good Fit” Books daily! “Good fit” books are books that are not too hard and not too easy.  The expectation is that students improve their reading skills and develop a love for reading.

Snow School Read at Home Plan

  • Reading Book Bags will go home daily with “Good Fit” Books
  • Students must read daily:
  • Grades (K-1) 15+ minutes daily
  • Grades (2-5) 30+ minutes daily
  • Reading Logs- Signed daily by parents and   checked by teachers.
  • MobyMax (Students can login through CLEVER on Dearborn Schools home page.  Please contact Mrs. Bush bushm@dearbornschools.org for assistance if needed.

Field Trip Forms-make sure you send in money with the form, otherwise I will not collect the form until the money is with it. The cost is 10 dollars per student and per adult.

Field Trip Form

Hello,

First grade is going on a Field Trip!! Yay 🙂  Forms are in their folder.

Today we took our first math quiz. We are becoming more familiar with the new program. In the years past, I’ve approached math from a math workshop perspective, though this program isn’t set up that way, I’ll be looking into trying it that way so that I can work with small groups. So fingers crossed. If it doesn’t work, I will have to continue doing it the way the program is set up.

Some students are not bringing their behavior/reading log everyday to school or they are not getting it signed.  Please help them develop a routine so that they bring them back signed.  If they are not asking you to sign it, then you know your child needs some help.

Ilham and Cristina have signed up to be room parents, which means they will be in charge of organizing parties. I will be passing on phone numbers to them of those of you who signed up as party helpers. Many Thanks!!!!

Students have begun setting goals ( 2 personal and 2 school) as we reviewed Habit 1-Be Proactive and learned about Habit 2-Begin With the End in Mind (growth mindset). Next week week we will look at our NWEA goals and how to graph our spelling tests in our data folders.

Have a Great Weekend!

Notes

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for joining us last night at Open House. I enjoyed meeting you. I want to let you know that if you signed up for a Thursday November 6th conference, the date is incorrect, it’s actually Thursday November 8th.

Book bags started trickling out this week and everyone will have one by next week.

Today in math we worked on making 6. I sent home flashcards they can make to show ways to make 6 using number bonds. It says Homework on it, you do not have to return it. They can keep it and practice from it. If you know your child is good with making 6, you can use them to make harder ones if you like, it will be good making number bonds practice.

Wednesday the 19th, is a late start day so arrive at 9:35 am. I will start their Math NWEA test that morning after art.

We do not have a librarian as of yet but when we do, book check out for us is on Tuesday’s.

Monday-Physical Education          Tuesday-Music and Library checkout/return

Wednesday-Art     Thursday-Media and Music    Friday-Enrichment

Best way to contact me is through email-kearneb@dearbornschools.org or a note on their behavior/reading log.

Spelling List will be posted on Fridays, just click on “spelling list”

Have a Great Weekend!!!
