We had some excitement today in science. After the break we are starting our Life Science Unit and a friend happened to have some tadpoles to give away so today we examined them and wrote notes in our science journal about what we observed. Also, we are finishing up our physical science unit with Magnets and observed yesterday items that stuck to the magnet and items that didn’t and then recorded it on chart. Today we held magnets together and observed what happened when we flipped one magnet over. After, student went back and wrote and drew about what they observed. Tomorrow we will read about magnets and write a bit more. Also we have been writing an informational book about penguins and getting close to publishing it, I’m excited to see the final copy.
Don’t forget to send in field trip permission slips and popcorn money by Friday morning.
Our next Field Trip has been planned! We will be going to the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum on April 13th. Look for permission slips on Monday.
Spring Conference Invites were sent home today.
Don’t forget, Literacy Night is this Monday, the 23rd. It starts at 5:00pm and goes until 6:00pm. Our Book Fair will also be open that evening.
Have a Wonderful Weekend:)
This year’s Literacy Night is this Monday, March 23, from 5-6pm.
Spring Conferences are on Thursday, March 26, from 4-7pm. If you don’t get an invitation tomorrow but have some concerns you would like to talk about, please let me know.
I received an email a few days ago from our media teacher and wanted to pass it on to you……….We have created a MyOn Reading Contest measuring how many minutes students read in the month of March. I set the goal of 350 mins. thinking 20 mins. per day for most of March. Kids can start anytime just by reading on MyOn at school or at home at www.myon.com. Dr. Groover will be giving prizes for the top reader in each grade (measured by number of minutes reading on MyOn).
Today First Graders did a science experiment to show that not only temperature can change states of matter but a chemical reaction can as well. Ask them what we did today and see if they can identify what the liquid, solid and gas was. Have them explain the experiment as well.
Math tests were sent home the other day, but not to everybody. A few students seemed to not follow directions as we were taking the test so I’m going to have them redo those parts. Also absent students did not have them returned yet. If you didn’t get yours the other day, you will be receiving yours on Monday.
We will be making our Leprechaun Traps on Monday! Hope we catch one and a little gold!
Tomorrow is the PTA skating party at the Lincoln Park Skating Rink from 6-8pm. Only $7 dollars in advance or $9 dollars at the door! Come join fun!!!
Don’t forget to send in a shoe box for our Leprechaun Traps.
Dear Parents,
Please speak to your child about the importance of packing up their folders and remembering to bring them home. Over the past month students are leaving homework and folders on their desk. We pack up and everyday and everyday I tell them at least 3 times to make sure they put their homework in their folders and yet they still end up shoved in their desk, or left on the tables, or like today…two math test study guides ended up on the floor in the hallway.
The math test study guide went home today. Have them do it on their own, go over it with them and help them with the ones they got wrong.
Thanks for your support,
Mrs. Kearney
I will be sending a hard copy of this home tomorrow.
Wanted: Supplies for Leprechaun Traps
We will be reading about Leprechauns and Pots of Gold during the next two weeks and would like students to get some gold so we decided to have them build Leprechaun Traps and try their luck at catching one. If you could start collecting items on the list below and send them in by Friday, March 13th we would appreciate it. This is not a limited list, use your imagination and send in anything worthy of trap building!
Wanted:
Thanks!
