Homework and Reading/behavior Log

This week was the first week with their behavior/reading logs sent home. Thank you parents for taking the time to initial/sign the log daily.  This lets me know you have checked how their day went. If you have questions about the “log” I have put directions at the bottom of it, if you need more information just email me and I’ll be glad to answer any questions. Book Bags will start coming home next week and students are expected to read 5 nights for 15-20 minutes.  They’ve been doing great during daily 5 read to self. They sustained 21 minutes of quiet focused reading!  We are now working on our work on writing stamina. They did 17 minutes today, much better than the 5 minutes yesterday:) I was quite impressed.  Homework should be returned daily, we had good day today, almost 100% returned!  Thank you for partnering with me in your child’s education. I value your support.

If you have not returned the emergency card as of yet,  please do so ASAP.

Students have a 120 chart on the back of their folder, they can use this to practice counting aloud, forward and backward by 1s,  counting forward by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, identifying numbers, adding numbers together, and for use with homework if needed.

Have a Great Evening,

Mrs. Kearney

Notes…

Hello, I just want to say “thanks” for coming to Open House last night.  It was really nice meeting/seeing you, some of you for the first time, and speaking with you.  I’ve been enjoying my time with your child and am looking forward to this school year. This week was our first spelling test.  I wanted to let you know that every week their spelling homework will be the same format.  I want to clarify Tuesday’s Triangle Words spelling homework for you. The words that are sent home on Monday (write 3 times each) are to be saved to use for Tuesday’s homework.  Many students used random words on that homework sheet.  I did give them directions of what to do, but at 6 years old, it can be confusing. Spelling Words are sent home on Monday’s. I will do my best to post them on my blog under the “spelling” heading no later than Sunday.

If you have not turned in your Dearborn Public Schools Emergency Contact Card please do so.

We have scheduled our first field trip for Thursday October 20th to Upland Hills Farm. If you would like to chaperone please make sure you have had your background check at least 2 weeks prior to the trip.

Have a Great Weekend!

Notes…

Tomorrow is clean up day.  Students will march in a parade and help clean up the school grounds.  We would like students to wear their light blue Snow School shirt that was recently purchased. We are also asking that they wear it on Field Day which will take place on Friday June 3rd.  We are in need of volunteers.  Click on this link to sign up and join in on the fun!https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0.

Thank you to those who have sent in items for our Arts and Crafts Picnic Raffle Basket. June 3rd all items are due so if you get a chance to pick something up by then just send it in.

Our classroom also could use some glue sticks if you want to donate to us 🙂

PTA Picnic News and Summer Dress Code Reminder

Now that warmer weather is here, please be aware that the Dearborn Schools Student Code of Conduct requires that student clothing should be “modest and avoid distracting influences.”

For your child’s safety and comfort, we ask that students wear shoes that are appropriate for running and playing on the playground instead of flip flops.  Please also refrain from allowing students to wear shirts with spaghetti straps and we ask that girls wear shorts under their skirts or dresses.

Thanks!

PTA NEWS:  Attention Parents!

The end of the school year is rapidly approaching and so is our Annual End-of-the-Year Picnic!  we are always looking for volunteers to help the picnic go off without a hitch!  We have plenty of open spots still available for the evening.  If anyone can help, please sign-up using the sign-up genius link:

We are looking for a few donations for the evening as well:  baked goods for our dessert table, along with juice boxes, water and soda.  If you are able to donate any of these items, please deliver by 3:30pm the day of the picnic.  We are also looking for crockpots to help cook the hotdogs at the picnic.  If anyone has one they are willing to let us borrow that evening, please let us know.  We’ll need that by 2pm that day.

We are having our last PTA meeting of the year on Tuesday, June 7th at 6pm.  We will also be packing all of the preorders and putting together the raffle baskets that day.  Please come join us for the meeting and stay after to help us finalize last-minute picnic details.  Any and all help is welcome.

Any questions, please contact Jeannette Warren, PTA president: trysmom@gmail.com.

Thank you!

Leader in Me

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We would like to invite you to take our on-line Leader In Me Survey  to collect some data for our Leader In Me grant.  The link for you is provided below.  We are highly encouraging all parents to take part in this survey.  It is our hope that we have at least 250 parents take this survey and IF we do the school will be holding an organized dance party on Thursday, May 26 from 2:30-3:00.  Mr. D will be our  very own DJ.  So, please help our school reach the goal of 250 parents participating and provide our school with a little dancing fun!!!

ABC Countdown and Field Trip

Check your child’s folder for their ABC Countdown to the end of the year! There is a description of what to do for each day of the week.

Field Trip is tomorrow.  An informative note is in their folder about it.

We completed our NWEA testing last week and I just want to say what a great job overall the students did on it.  Many students made their goal. I will send home a progress sheet for you later this week. I’m very proud of every student!  Thank you parents for all your support in making sure they do their homework daily and encouraging them to do their best.
