Notes…

Happy Superbowl Sunday,

Last week was our first normal week in quite some time. No NWEA testing or end of the quarter assessments. With that being said, I want to let you know that this week I will be administering 2 parts of the WIDA (English Second Language Test) to all first grade students that have been registered as speaking/hearing two languages at home. I will be testing them on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00-12:00 in our classroom. The students in our room who will not be tested will be split up and some will go to Mrs. Massy’s classroom or Mrs. Slater’s classroom on those dates and the above mentioned times. I wanted to inform you so that when your child tells you about it, you know why.

We are done with unit 5 in math and students will bring home a study guide for homework tomorrow. On Tuesday I will review it with them and they will take the test on Wednesday. We are wrapping up our economics unit as well and should test Monday or Tuesday of next week. This week we will be “producing” a “good” (animal sculpture out of clay) which they designed using the google classroom app on their chrome books. They will also be writing an advertisement for their product on google classroom as well and then selling it to classmates so that they can be not only a producer but a “consumer” as well. We covered “scarcity” by illustrating the concept and then typing up/printing an explanation of the picture.

After the Economics Test we will begin our Science Unit-Earth/Space Systems

We will also begin publishing our informational writing this week. They have read and taken notes on jellyfish, seahorses, and octopuses and will have to choose which one they want to publish.

Don’t forget this Tuesday is our Science Night

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday,

Mrs. Kearney
