Happy New Year,

Hope 2017 is off to a great start for you and your family. When students return we will begin a new measurement unit using objets (paperclips, linking cubes etc.) to measure items. We will continue to practice time as in telling it to the half hour and/or drawing the hands properly for the hour and half hour because some students are having difficulty.

Also this month, we will begin our winter round of NWEA testing starting the week of January 17.  Make sure they are getting plenty of rest and talk to them about taking their time. Students will also be taking the district writing test. The genre is opinion so if you have the opportunity ask them their opinion about something and have them give you a reason/explanation for it. If they are complaining that they are bored, have them write their opinion about a topic. In my opinion…provide 2 reasons..restate opinion at the end.

I sent home a sheet with information of how to log onto a website called IXL. Students were using it in the classroom and most of them know how to get on, if they can’t remember, the sheet should be in their folder.  They can practice all subjects on this website. It is a 30 day free trial.  I really like it so I will see what a subscription costs, if it’s reasonable/affordable I will purchase it. Make sure they are going on Moby Max  and My On to read and reading books.
