Week of 11/18/19

ELA/Writng

This week in reading, students are working on comparing and contrasting ideas in informational text. Small group instruction is going to continue, with students beginning chapter book lessons this week and next. We will continue to work on persuasive writing. Please make sure your child reads for 30 minutes every night.

Math

5th Grade Math

Fifth graders have a test on all of Module 2 on Friday. We will review for the test Thursday. Their review guide was sent home Friday, and will be due at the review session. Tomorrow and Wednesday we will be completing the last two lessons on the test, Lesson 28 and Lesson 29.

Homework for Lesson 28 and Lesson 29 will be optional to allow 5th grade to prepare for their test. Here are links to the homework and a supportive video:

4th Grade Math

Students are transitioning to learning about multiplying one and two-digit numbers by 10s, 100s, and 1,000s. We will work to understand multiplication of such high-value numbers conceptually. Our goal is to get through lesson 6, and perhaps reach for lesson 7.

Science

We are continuing our study of space. Our goal is to complete an investigation about how early peoples determined there were 24 hours in one day.

4th Grade Social Studies

We our continuing our introductory study of human geography. We will introduce concepts of population this week to build up to a discussion of immigration outside/within the United States.
