Please come to school to pick up your child’s Common Core Ready workbook and the math blue dot workbook. Other resources will be posted soon on my blog.
Links and Information
Any online work that we do in our classroom is linked to my blog under the heading “Class Links.” There are also pages listed at the top of my blog for things like Reading Logs or Spelling Words.
Clever
Clever is a hub that is located in our Dearborn Schools main website.
This allows children to access many applications commonly used by students throughout the district. You can always go to Clever to find most of the apps we use. However, you can also use my blog.
Google Classroom
Google Classroom is a place where your child is linked to special classroom assignments.
All Google apps like Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Slides, etc. can be accessed through your child’s school account. Make sure you are signed out of YOUR account before you try to access a google classroom. You will not be able to enter the classroom from your account. Your child signs in to Google with his/her school id and password independently at school and can do this at home, too. Sign in information is in his/her planner.
ReadWorks
ReadWorks is a site which has reading passages and question sets that match the passages.
Each student has a username and password. You can also use the classroom code: FTY2B4 to enter the site with Google or Clever.
Zearn
This site is closely matched with our math curriculum. I am keeping this updated to reflect the current unit in math. To access Zearn, go through my blog.
Each students has a username and password that has been glued into his/her planner to ensure ease of access. Our class code is CH6J7U. Again, I strongly encourage you to have your child log in to his/her own google account before accessing. This allows ease of re-entry into the site.

D-SHINES Information!
Dear Families,
Haigh is excited to collaborate with Wayne State University to begin our D-SHINES program this spring. D-SHINES will convert part of the large field behind our school into a full garden, complete with massive garden beds, shed, picnic tables and benches for an outdoor classroom. The focus of this program is to promote healthy lifestyle choices, proper nutrition and the importance of physical activity.
Before we begin this program, the D-SHINES program coordinator from WSU would like to collect information from our families to develop a program that is best suited for our students and our families. The survey takes approximately six minutes. Please take the time to complete this survey (only one survey per family is needed).

Thanks so much for your help and support as we begin this awesome program!
D-SHINES Haigh Representatives,
Courtney Otto and Sara Sarafa (Garden Champions)
Kristy Lozon (Physical Activity Champion)
School Closed
Haigh School has no power and will be closed for today, March 5th, 2020. I will keep everyone informed through out the day about school for tomorrow, Friday, March 6th. Please share this message with friends and family.
Mr. Short
PE Club
Dear Haigh students and families,
Thank you everyone that applied for student participation in our Haigh PE Club. The amount of interest in club has been incredible! Unfortunately, we were only able to select 25 students in grades K-2 and 25 students from grades 3-5. All students that were selected for this club have been notified. On Friday, students that were selected for this club were given acceptance notes. If your child was not one of those selected, don’t worry! Any students not selected have been added to a waiting list and will be contacted as spaces become available.
Thank you again for all of your support,
Mrs. Lozon
PE Club Teacher
Social Studies Test Wednesday
Here is a copy of the answers to the summative Michigan History test we will have on Wednesday. We did review activities and students worked on these in class today! Please have your child complete the study guide tonight!
Welcome to 2020!
I hope everyone has had a restful and enjoyable winter break! I was able to spend time with family and friends! It was fun to rest and relax with my loved ones. I’m looking forward to hearing some fun stories from my students!
We are quickly approaching the halfway point in our school year. I want to bring everyone up to speed on what to expect over the next few weeks.
Upcoming Events
- December Reading Logs are due, along with the 10 completed questions on Monday. January 6. Reading Log This was assigned at the beginning of December and is worth 10 points.
- End of the 2nd marking period is Friday, January 17. Report cards will be sent home the following week. Watch for those and make sure you sign and return the envelope to indicate that you’ve received it!

Students may also bring home Data Folders to show you growth from the beginning of the school year. Students will be tested in Reading, English Language Arts (grammar, writing skills), and Math.

Lansing Field Trip Chaperone Update!
The chaperones have been lined up. We are truly overwhelmed with how many parents wanted to serve as chaperones for this trip! Each of our classes had many, many parents who volunteered. Unfortunately, we are extremely limited in space at the Capitol and the Museum. If you were not selected to chaperone on this trip (which was done as fairly as we could), we want to encourage you–there are several more amazing trips coming up! If you didn’t get a chance this time, you will be guaranteed a spot on the next trip (if your background check is complete). Thank you for your willingness to help!
