The students have started their research on companies that are based in Michigan. Here are the main points to know as your child works on this at home! I would encourage you to visit some of these companies in the next week or try out some of the products that the students are researching.
When do we work on it and when is it due?
- The rest of the project (poster and notecards) will be finished AT HOME
- The poster and notecards are due on Friday, May 31! Each day late will result in a 5 point reduction in the final grade.
What does the project look like?

Poster board samples
- For this project, students will be determining the products made by their assigned company, all three of the company’s resources (natural, capital, and human), the main location of the company (or a location close to where we are in Dearborn), and any interesting facts about the company.
- Students need to make a poster on standard poster board (22×28). You can find it at Staples, Walmart, Michaels, Dollar Tree, Target, etc. They typically cost less than $1.
- The design for the poster is totally up to your child, but all of the elements need to be included. A packet was sent home today (5/23) that shows an example.
- The note cards basically summarize the poster. The packet contains the information that is needed for each notecard.
How will my child be graded?
- In the packet, there is a 100 point rubric that shows all the elements that are required to earn 100%.
- For each day late, the grade decreases by 5 points. Note: If it’s 2 days late, that’s a loss of 10 points, not 5.
- Earn an extra credit (5 points) for including a photo of your child with the product/company!!
When will my child present his/her poster to the class?
- Regardless of when your child presents, the entire project (poster and cards) are due on May 31 and will be kept here in class to make it fair for everyone.
- Presentations will be on June 7 and June 10. A schedule will come out on May 31 and will be posted on my blog.
- On the day of the presentation, you are welcome to come. I will stick to the schedule absolutely and no exceptions will be made. The end of the year is very crunched with activities so we want to be respectful of everyone involved. If your child would like to bring in samples to share with the class, that is absolutely fine. It is NOT REQUIRED but it does make the experience more fun and real for the students. Keep in mind, food samples that require any special equipment (ice cream scoops, bowls, spoons) will not be available in the classroom. You will need to have your child bring those along.
