A Word About Graded Assignments/Quizzes/Tests

This week, you’ll begin to receive graded work coming home in your child’s Owl Folder. Please let your child be in charge of his/her Owl Folder. This is an important year for growing good homework habits.  Look at your child’s Owl Folder/Planner together every day with him/her, and then give the responsibility for taking care of it to him/her.

Here is the procedure for graded work.

  • Any graded work will have a % score on it. I typically write a fraction that shows how many points were earned over the number of points possible.
  • Graded work MUST be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to school the following day. I keep a record of work that has been returned.
    • I ask you to do this because I want you to be aware of your child’s ongoing grades and I also want you to go over the work with your child.
    • There are also times when I make a mistake. It doesn’t happen often, but it happens!
  • Do NOT throw away graded work.  You will get it all back at the end of the marking period, along with your child’s report card.
  • All graded work has been used to calculate and average your child’s report card grades.
    • Report Card Grades
      • 1=95% or above
      • 2=80%-94%
      • 3=70%-79%
      • 4= 69% and below
  • Work with a checkmark at the top does not need to be returned and is not entered into the gradebook. We have reviewed it in class. This includes Math Sprints.

If you have any questions, please let me know!
