Area Test Wednesday

We have our area test on Wednesday and we have spent the past 2 days reviewing in class.  I reviewed the study guide with the students today and had the students write about everything they have learned about area.  I’ve included the answers to the study guide that I sent home today for homework.

Have your child complete the study guide independently and then you can review the answers together.  To help your child study you can do the following things:

  • If there is anything that your child gets wrong, ask them to explain his/her thinking and you will find that he/she finds the mistake quickly.
  • Ask questions like–Does this makes sense?  How do you know you’re right?  Have you thought about this part?  These will help guide your child’s problem-solving.  Remember, understanding how you get the answer is more important than getting the right answer.
  • We can never eliminate silly mistakes completely, but we can show that what we think makes sense on a math test by showing our work and writing about what we know.  Much of our math now is about students explaining their thinking.

I will review the study guides with the class before we take the test, so if there are any glaring issues, write a note on your child’s study guide and we’ll be sure to go over it.

Art to Remember

Attention Parents!

School Fundraiser Information: This semester, our school is participating in a unique fundraising program with Art to Remember that gives you the opportunity to purchase keepsake items with your child’s artwork on them. The best part is that every keepsake order supports our school.

Order forms for Art to Remember will be sent home with students on 3/2/18 and are due back by 3/13/18. To see available keepsake items like coffee mugs, key chains, and necklaces,visit https://arttoremember.com/fundraising-p…/keepsake-programs/…/

Vacation Homework Reminder!

Please make sure you visit your favorite restaurant during our mid-winter break!  It’s important that you bring a copy of the menu to school on Monday.  We will begin a new writing project using this menu.

Bon appetit!

Castle Contest!

Dear Families,

Our February PBIS celebration is almost here and the kids are so excited to make a competition out of this month’s activity with a CASTLE CUP CHALLENGE! Each grade level will be divided up into small groups and will have the opportunity to work with their classmates to design and create the best structure they can imagine.

In order to make this celebration possible, we are asking for donations of   16 ounce plastic cups (typical red Solo cups). The more cups we have, the more the kids will get to use in their creation.

If you are able to donate, please send the cups in with your student no later than Monday, February 26th.

Thank you so much for your continued support – it truly is appreciated!

Valentine’s Day!

We will be having a Valentine’s Day Celebration this year on Wednesday, February 14 from 2:40-3:25 in Room 32.  All parents are welcome to attend.  If you would like to make any donations, please use the sign-up genius link below.  Please do not send in extra treats for our class (cupcakes, ice cream, extra cookies, etc.).  It can get a little bit overwhelming!  Please just use the sign up link to guide you.

We have 25 students in our class.  If your child would like to bring in valentines he/she may do so.  The valentines should be addressed (I will send home the class list) and there must be a valentine for each student in our class because that’s what politeness requires.  If your child does not want to bring in valentines, that is fine also.  Each child will be making a valentine mailbox in class, using a large brown grocery bag.  If you have any questions, please let me know!
