Important- NWEA Sign-Up Change!!

Hi Parents,

Unfortunately, we were just notified this evening that the guidelines have changed for the number of kids we can have in the classroom at once. At first we were told 6, but they changed it today to a maximum of 3. I am so terribly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but I just went ahead and redid the entire sign-up sheet. I added in a day next week- Tuesday, to hopefully knock the Reading test out.

If you sign up for tomorrow, please have your child to the 4th grade doors, Coburn and Robindale, on the time you signed up for and be there to pick them up promptly as I will have another group 15 minutes after. Please have your child wear their mask, bring a water bottle, and if possible, their chromebook. We have some at Haigh, but a lot of the good ones have been given away.

Thank you for your understanding, please see the new sign-up below.

Peek at our Week

Hi families!
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and were able to get out and enjoy the nice weather 🙂 Below is the schedule for the week, which is also located on Schoology. If you have not logged in, or watched the video I sent out last week, please do so 🙂 This will help you and your child navigate the system and submit assignments. The zoom link is located on this schedule as well as in Schoology too.

Important Reminders for the week:

*Please sign-up for a NWEA time so I can assess your child in Reading on either Tuesday or Thursday morning. (Math next week)

-NO LIVE MEETINGS these days 🙂

*If you have not yet signed up for a DRA time, please see past blog post for that sign-up link.

*Please be on time for our zoom meetings and prepared with all materials and supplies for the day 🙂

*Your child will be getting a Zearn and Seesaw log-in and password this week. We will use Zearn for Math, it aligns perfectly with our program and can help with a good review, practice, and even going further into the Units for a challenge. Seesaw will be used for Spelling, Phonics, and fun things 🙂

*Beginning this week, all assignments that are due will be listed on Schoology. For this week it will be Writing and Math only. Next week we begin Unit 1 in Reading and will have assignments for that.

Thank you and as always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me!

NWEA Reading Sign-up

Next week, on top of DRA assessments, we will begin testing students on the NWEA Reading Assessment. Student scores will help us better understand where your child is and how we can best meet their needs.

Please sign up for a time on Tuesday or Thursday morning. Please note on these days we will not be meeting on Zoom for a live lesson, but there will be either a recorded lesson/video/ assignment for them to complete on these mornings. We want to knock these assessments out so we can begin Learning Labs.

Thank you for your cooperation. Next week we will take the Math.

Show & Tell Tomorrow!

Hi Families,

Just a reminder (I mentioned on our Zoom meeting today) your child can grab 1 or 2 things that represents who they are and show and tell us about it.

Going forward next week, we will log onto Schoology to find the week’s lesson plan, zoom link, and assignments for the week. I will show your child on Monday how to navigate Schoology and where to find/submit assignments. If you haven’t yet, please watch the video I linked on the “Important Notes/Schoology” email I sent out on Tuesday.

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend. Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and hard work with your child this week. I appreciate your partnership 🙂

DRA Testing

Hi Parents,

When your child comes to DRA test, please come to the 4th grade doors, not the main doors. These doors are located off Coburn St., closest to Robindale, almost where we did the supply pick up! Please make sure your child has a mask on, you will have to wait in your car at this time. We should only be about 20 minutes or so 🙂 Thank you for your cooperation!

DRA Assessment Sign-Up

Hi families!

I would like to see your child in person to administer a Reading Assessment. If you do not feel comfortable with this, please let me know and we can figure out a way to do it virtually. Your child will be required to wear a mask and you will be required to wait by the office or outside. This appointment will last for about 20-25 minutes. Below is the sign-up genius which is a first come, first serve type of sign-up. Please sign-up with your child’s name so I know who I am going to see that day 🙂

Schoology Information

Parents,

I hope you find this information useful as we navigate this online learning environment and begin to use Schoology. You can follow these directions to log-in and access this week’s Zoom and lesson plan through Schoology, or you can see the email I sent out Thursday to click on the link and view the schedule. Please make sure your child is on time for 9am! I’m hoping all goes smoothly and crossing my fingers for no technological issues, but please be patient with me as I don’t know what to expect tomorrow! We will try to stick to the schedule as close as possible, barring no issues.

  • Here is a video on how to log your child into Schoology and where to find both the lesson plan and zoom links for each week. Please make sure to do this before your child logs on next week!!  Moving forward, Schoology will be our main platform of communication!

How to Log-In to Schoology- Click Me to watch a video

Schoology Log-in for Students Direction Sheet

  • We have created this student schedule for you to print and keep near your child’s workspace, just so they know and it becomes routine for them.  A major skill we work on is fostering independence by establishing routines and a schedule. We hope this will be a useful tool during our remote learning adventure. Please review the student schedule with your child prior to our zoom meeting so they know what to expect.

Student Friendly Schedule to print

  • If you have not yet subscribed to my blog, please do so! Also,  please also make sure to subscribe to Mr. Short’s blog before we begin Tuesday.

  • In case you are having trouble getting into Schoology, email me and I can send you the zoom link and schedule, but if I don’t hear from you, both will be on Schoology under the course “2nd Grade”- you’ll see my bitmoji.  Please make sure your child is ready to go and logged in by 9am each day:)
  • Special Schedule for next week is:

Monday- P.E.

Tuesday- Art

Friday- Music

(no tech or media yet)

**Please make sure your child is clicking on that course page for that day and completing any assignments from those teachers.  The schedule will change after this week. **

Beginning next week, the weekly schedule and zoom link for the week will be posted to Schoology by the end of day Friday, so you can take a look at the week ahead and have all supplies and materials ready.  If there’s a time when your child cannot make a live lesson, please message me on Schoology or via email and let me know so I don’t mark them absent.  I understand we have to be flexible during this time and communication is key. Recorded videos will be posted under the course page.
